World Trade Center
Good Morning! I just left Summit One Vanderbilt. I am heading across the street to Grand Central Station where I will catch a train to Fulton Street. From there I will walk to The World Trade Center.
I need a train to Fulton Street.
Completed in 2016, Oculus is supposed to resemble a dove flying out of a person’s hands. It was designed as a transportation hub to bring people back to The World Trade Center.
You could probably spend an entire day in here if you had that kind of time. This is big but there’s a lot more to it than what you see here. There are hallways that branch off of this.
This is one of the many subway stations in Oculus. It seems like there’s a station in every corner.
Oculus is a combination shopping mall and subway station. I would imagine it’s very convenient for people who work in the World Trade Center.
I would also imagine during the winter months it’s nice to take the subway here for shopping without having to go outside.
I just came out the other side of Oculus. That is the 9/11 museum across the street.
I am going to visit the north and south pools which are where the twin towers once stood. They are the two largest manmade waterfalls in North America.
This is the North Pool. It contains the names of 1,470 people who died in the building on 9/11, 6 names of people who died in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, and 87 names from American Airlines flight 11 that crashed into the building.
This is the South Pool. It contains the names of 694 people from World Trade Center South, 441 first responders, 40 people from flight 93, 59 people from flight 77, 60 from flight 175, and 144 from the Pentagon.
I am going to grab lunch before returning for the One World Observatory. This is the Oculus Beer Garden. It doesn’t look open yet.
I walked a few blocks down to one the top lunch spots on my list for New York: Los Tacos No. 1.
I went with steak tacos on corn tortillas with basically everything on them.
Those were very good.
Imagine being the guy cleaning those windows!
Next time I’m returning to The World Trade Center for the One World Observatory.
