Wicked
Good Afternoon! I just got back from the Mets game. Now I’m getting ready to go to Wicked. I don’t have time to stop and eat so I grabbed a hot dog from the vendor across the street.
There’s a hot dog guy on every corner around this hotel. There’s an ice cream guy across the street. The Halal Guys are a block away. You will not go hungry here.
Here is a look at the hotel bar on my way out.
It looks like I’m going three blocks to 50th Street. Then I’m going to hang a right and go two blocks to 8th avenue.
Wicked plays at the Gershwin Theatre.
This theatre feels newer than the Majestic where I saw Phantom of the Opera last night. The concourse is definitely bigger.
They have a couple of different retail stands here.
They would not have had space for a photo place like this at the majestic.
The bar is much bigger than Majestic but the line isn’t shorter because they aren’t using all of their point of sale terminals.
All of the shows seem to have their own signature cocktails. I’m going with Flying Monkey Punch.
I’m going to get a double again. I’ll try to get one of those cups from each show.
I waited in the long line and bought this $32 drink from the bar. I’m heading to my seat. The lady at the door informs us we cannot take these drinks inside the theatre. She also said if we are not in our seats before the start of the show, they will not let us in until 10 minutes after the show starts. At this point we are 5 minutes until show time.
It would be really nice if they had a sign at the bar letting you know you can’t take drinks inside. I didn’t want to miss any of the show so I took my drink off to the side and downed it.
I wonder if that’s the case in all theatres and nobody said anything in Phantom of the Opera because the cups weren’t clear. It’s confusing with so many people buying drinks they can’t take it in the theatre.
I have two more shows this trip so I’ll get to the bottom of it probably tomorrow night.
The view is good. I’d say the seats are bigger than at the Majestic Theatre. The armrests are bigger as well. Legroom can be an issue where I was sitting. I think the rows in front of mine had better legroom.
I didn’t have anyone next to me for a half hour. Then this guy came in. I don’t know if he just got a free ticket or what but he didn’t seem interested in being there. He was tired. He kept yawning, rubbing his face, and leaning forward to stay awake.
He looked at his phone to check the time about five times in an hour which you aren’t supposed to do at all. Phones are supposed to be turned off during the shows in the Broadway theatres. He didn’t return for the second act and that was fine with me.
My knees came right to the seat. This seat was the first row up a step. I think the ones in front of me had better legroom.
I was wondering if they block cell phone signals in there because I had no signal in the theater. During intermission I had to go out by the bar to get a little bit of a signal. After the show I still couldn’t get a signal even out on the street. Maybe it was just my phone because after a reboot it was fine.
The pedicab drivers were all lined up when the show let out.
I went out for food and a beer. I read the burgers are good here. It was pretty good but nothing to write home about.
I had a couple Bronx Summer Ales.
Tonight’s rooftop bar is 230 5th.
This one has the best view of the Empire State Building I’ve seen yet.
They have a couple of nice photo op spots. If you want to get a picture here you may have to wait. People conduct extensive photo sessions in front of them. I just worked around them as best as I could to keep them out of my pictures.
I made it back to the hotel.
I was thinking there were no USB ports in this hotel room but I was wrong. They’re on the alarm clock.
Tomorrow morning I need to do my home COVID test which is required for Bermuda. Then I’m going to head to Wall Street. Good night!
