Vista: Debarkation

on
April 27, 2019

Good morning from Galveston. It’s a bit foggy outside.

Matt said under these conditions it’s normally a 3-4 hour delay but the captain did a great job this morning. No debarkation until 8:30.

I’m checking out of my room. I stripped the beds for the steward. Hopefully that helps a bit.

At 8:30 they called deck 1 self assist passengers for debarkation.

I’m having my last meal on Vista.

8:52 Matt just made an announcement if your room isn’t on deck 1, don’t come down for debarkation. He said a lot of people from decks 3 and 4 came down.

9:06 They called decks 2 and 3 self assist.

9:14 deck 6 self assist.

9:16 deck 7 self assist.

9:23 deck 8 self assist and luggage tags 1-3.

Matt asking all guests to vacate their cabins. They were supposed to be out an hour ago.

9:37 luggage tags 4-8. I’m on deck (pun intended).

9:44 luggage tags 9-12. I’m heading down.

The line for the elevator is insane. I took the stairs down from deck 10 and even those are backed up to deck 4.

9:50 decks 10-11 self assist. From what I’m seeing down here they’re calling people too early.

9:55 decks 11-12 self assist and zone tags through 17.

9:57 zone tags through 20.

As I pass Guest Services I’m reminded that I had a lot of interactions with them this cruise. Leaving Harry in the car, safe wouldn’t open, locking my key in the room twice, adding the gift card. They were always quick, friendly and great.

10am all tags through 25. I’m off the ship.

10:06 I have my suitcase.

10:12 I’m through customs and outside. That’s the shortest line I’ve seen for customs in Galveston by far. On my other two cruises here it’s been a nightmare.

I step outside and my ride is just pulling up.

10:15 the shuttle is pulling out. It’s starting to rain. I just lost Vista WiFi pulling out of the parking lot. We stopped to drop people off at the RCCL terminal. If I have any criticisms of this parking lot, that’s it. It was a quick 2 minute stop though.

10:30 I made it to my car. The lot is as empty as it was a week ago. 25 cars in here.

We’re pulling out. I’ll be back in Galveston next February and I’ll book Falstaff Cruise Parking again.
