Venezia Transatlantic: Gibraltar
Good morning from Gibraltar! We have an early port day today. Back on board is at 3pm. My excursion meets at 7:45am so I’m going to have to grab a quick breakfast from the buffet.
Carnival cruisers are already making changes. This is the door to the “secret deck.” I’m guessing Costa guests didn’t have access to those decks but we Carnival cruisers are used to having access to them.
Here is a look at today’s Fun Times.
We’ve changed things up since yesterday. There is only one coffee line today and now you pickup your coffee down where I ordered the other day.
This is all I have time for this morning. And some kid was holding me up by eating her lucky charms one by one as they came out of the dispenser.
The tour meet time was 7:45 for the 8:30 tour. We left the theater around 8am.
For full coverage of my tour please visit Gibraltar: Cable Car & Great Siege Tunnels.
I’m going to skip ahead to when I got off of the tour bus.
The tour just dropped me off at Casemates Square. We had an option of ending our tour here or continuing back to the port. I want to check out the square and get some fish & chips before heading back to the ship. I hear it’s an easy walk back.
Casemates Square is the larger of two main squares on Gibraltar. It got it’s name from British bomb proof barracks known as casemates.
These casemates were built after The Great Siege when many of the buildings in this area were damaged and needed to be rebuilt. This was also where military hangings were conducted until 1865.
There are a lot of places to eat here. I’m going to do a full walkaround before deciding on a place.
You can book rock tours right here if you want to.
This guy has a full band playing here.
These look like the lunch candidates.
I decided on Lord Nelson.
Here is a look at their menu.
This is the Old Speckled Hen.
Fish n Chips.
That was good. I’m heading back to the ship.
This could be something to check into next time.
The walk isn’t bad. It’s a straight shot. 15 minutes to the gate. 20 to the ship.
This is a better shot than the one I got from the bus earlier.
They are proud of their monkeys.
This is made out of legos.
There are a lot of fish right by the ship.
There was a very short line to get on the ship at 1pm. I heard at 2:30pm the line was down the street.
The ship isn’t very crowded with many people still ashore.
Trivia in the Gondola Lounge.
If you’re interested in a dolphin safari while here, there is the website and phone number.
I grabbed two bloody marys from the bar to take back to the room.
Then I grabbed a meatball hero from Tomodoro and a Moretti from Rococos.
After eating I watched sail away. I had a longer version of this but apparently the song “I’m so sexy” has some kind of super copyright and my video was blocked until I cut that part out.
It looks like they’re set up for pickle ball.
Of course right after that the two people playing pickle ball left the court and 15 basketball players ran on. It’s 4pm. They must have some kind of time share.
If you remember the other day I was talking about pool games being on the back of the ship which was weird. I think this is the spot for those things on this ship. The DJ is setup back here as well.
And the main pool area doesn’t have a movie on or anything. It’s just the photo wall and regular music. It seems like they try to keep this area quieter than on other ships.
All of these games are on deck 11 starboard side above the pool deck.
I stopped at Rococo for a Miami Vice.
The solo guitarist is in the Gondola Lounge.
The Carnivale seems to be the designated karaoke bar. I walked in last night in that first seating area. It was full of people. I turned around and said “That guy is horrible. Who hired him?” And walked out.
Now it’s the same thing. I walked in looking to maybe try a new drink and some guy was trying to sing Ice Ice Baby. And he wasn’t very good at it.
Amari was full so I stepped to Frizzante to try their lemoncello mojito.
Then I got a classic expresso martini.
Then I got a Moretti to take to comedy. I like these draft Morettis. It’s the only beer I’ve drank this cruise. One of the bartenders was telling me they’re very popular in Europe right now.
Comedy host Buzz.
Spike Davis.
After comedy I stopped by the Hero’s bar since it was down the hall and the Mets, for once since this cruise started, are not on at 1am.
But there aren’t any games on.
They are having a problem with the TVs. I ordered up my Moretti and tried to find out how long this has been going on. I overheard a conversation between a white shirt and the bartender. It sounds like this was an issue yesterday as well.
It took about 20 minutes to get a table for dinner. I finished that one and I got another Moretti to take to the dining room.
This is the menu.
I’m going with an Italian theme.
Caesar salad.
Fried Mozzarella.
Minestrone.
Spezzatino Di Manzo.
Sicilian Lemon Mousse.
After dinner I headed back to the comedy club.
Bud Anderson.
The TVs are still down in the Hero’s Bar.
I stopped by the room to watch the sun set.
Then headed to lido to check out the silent disco.
I’m off to bed. I have a big day planned tomorrow in Lisbon. Good night.
