Top of the Rock
Good morning. I have the Mets game this afternoon, but this morning I’m going to try out Liberty Bagels and go to Top of the Rock, an observatory at the top of Rockefeller Center.
It’s crazy all of the bagel and cream cheese options these places have.
This is a French toast bagel with maple bacon cream cheese.
This one is a Jalapeño cheddar bagel with jalapeño cream cheese.
They are both good, but this one is extra good.
Now I’m heading to Rockefeller Center.
This isn’t the one from the movie Big. That one closed unfortunately.
This looks like the place.
The ticket was $43 after taxes.
They have a little museum you can go through before heading up top.
The museum overlooks Radio City Music Hall.
At the end of the museum they have a short film on Rockefeller Center.
This is the elevator ride up.
You have access to three levels at Top of the Rock. The first one has an observation deck on each side.
This is looking north toward Central Park.
This is looking east toward Long Island. You can see the Chrysler building on the right.
This is the side that faces south.
This is looking south with the Empire State Building right in the middle.
If we zoom in we can see One World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty.
This is looking east again but from the south side observation deck.
I took that escalator up a level. We are now on the 69th floor. I lost cell phone service up here.
This is looking north from the 69th floor.
On this floor we have access to the west side. We are now looking toward the Hudson River. Intrepid and the cruise port should be over there on this side of the river but they are blocked by buildings.
This is the view south from the 69th floor.
This is looking down on the first observation deck we were on.
The only way up to 70 is these steps. There is an elevator up there but there is a guy guarding it.
This is looking north toward Central Park from the 70th floor.
On this level it’s definitely easier to go from one side to the other without having to walk around the entire exterior to get to the other side.
South toward the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, and the Statue of Liberty.
North toward Central Park.
East toward Long Island with the Chrysler building on the right.
At the far end is the elevator they won’t let you use.
I am back down on the 67th floor about to take the elevator down to the ground floor.
They have a gift shop down on the ground floor if you want any Top of the Rock souvenirs.
That was Top of the Rock. I need to head to Queens because I wanted to get to the Mets game when they opened the gates and I’m running about 20 minutes behind schedule for that.
