Super Bowl Magic: Day 2
Good morning. I got some much needed sleep. A solid 8 1/2 hours. Which is about my maximum.
We must be going through some rough waters. There’s a lot of movement, occasional BANGs, and my hangers are rattling.
On top of that my steward was vacuuming the hallway and I heard a lady come up to him. “Good morning! How are you? Can we get some more towels please? All I need is one bath towel and two hand towels.”
So far this morning I miss the quietness of my Celebration room. I would think this would be a quiet one. I have no neighbor on one side. Two older ladies on the other side and no room across from me. I guess we’ll see how it goes the rest of the week.
I received someone else’s excursion tickets.
I also received the correct tickets. I guess the two envelopes were stuck together. I gave the other one to my steward on the way out this morning.
I did some unpacking before getting ready and heading out this morning.
I heard some talk in the elevator that seemed to indicate some of the coffee machines in the buffet aren’t working. Maybe the guy just ran into one of the machines that they had turned off. A lady in the elevator had no problem finding her buffet coffee.
I’m stopping by the Plaza Cafe for a mocha.
Here is a look at today’s Fun Times. Today is Super Bowl Sunday. You’ll see some special events for that. Today would normally be elegant night but they have moved that to tomorrow night.
It took about 8-10 minutes to get a brunch table. I was about to grab a screwdriver at the casino bar but I got my notification and headed down.
Sports trivia is happening in Ocean Plaza.
There aren’t as many people loitering as usual. Maybe people are learning the system.
They tried to put me in a shared table again. It’s very annoying when they have an option to request it, I didn’t request it, and they still gave it to me.
I got my private table.
Apparently there’s a wedding in the piano bar at 4pm. This is also a Valentine’s Day cruise so there are a lot of weddings going on.
Flaming tomato soup.
Huervos rancheros, crispy bacon, and hash browns.
I thought about stopping at the Plaza Cafe for a regular coffee but the line was 10 deep and I didn’t want to wait.
I went to the casino bar for a Bloody Mary but it’s pretty crowded. I sat there for about five minutes and nothing. The same thing happened when I tried to get a screwdriver there before brunch. I walked down to the atrium bar and got served immediately.
I got another bloody mary and I’m about to do some walking around.
I stopped by the excursions desk to ask about the “Behind The Fun” tour. It’s still not back.
I guess this is the Caribbean shopping show. They just mentioned tonight is not elegant night. They changed that for the Super Bowl.
Today is Super Bowl Sunday and they have some special activities planned like this “sail gate party.”
My next activity is on lido so I stopped by the room while I’m up here. My steward has been by. We agreed on evening service so either he’s going the extra mile or he’s just going to ignore that request and do it when he wants. Time will tell.
It’s so windy out.
I got a pina colada and watched pool games.
After the pool games I headed back to the Tides Bar to get shielded from the wind.
On the way back here I grabbed a shot of the buffet lunch menus.
This line is ridiculous so I had to see what it was for. Looks like they’re waiting to get something from the shopping guy. It would have to be something really good for me to wait in a line like that.
I stopped by The Red Frog Pub to try to get their new white stout beer. Not only do they not have it, they don’t even have a toasted Amber. All they have is Caribbean Wheat and birthday beer–for the Carnival beers. He said 5pm for toasted Amber. I’ve never not been able to get a Toasted Amber. It’s their #1 seller for the Carnival beers. I have to think they’re saving the Toasted Amber and IPA for the Super Bowl. They must be afraid of running out during the game.
Here is a look at where we’re at currently.
I was able to get a Toasted Amber in the casino.
Soul of Violin are getting a lot of applause having just played “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”
Here is some of that.
I got another Toasted Amber. I’m going to go check out Guy’s BBQ before it closes at 2:30.
They started putting out the “Buffet is Closed” signs 20 minutes early. I was like what the heck?
But I got served.
I got andouille sausage, beef, chicken, and macaroni.
Bryan Adams – Heaven
Look at this line. It looks like they’re waiting for a free charm in the jewelry store.
Here’s a quick peek in the Fun Shop.
Back up on lido deck. I got a mudslide.
A little sneak peek at specials for tonight.
White Russian.
I haven’t been covering the laundry rooms much since I hit platinum and got the free laundry service. This is one of the self-serve laundry rooms.
When I used to use them there would be an ironing board next to the sink. I don’t see one here.
I don’t miss doing laundry in here.
The date has been set for my Chef’s Table meal. It’s tomorrow night.
I came in 10 minutes late on the tailgate. They’re doing a touchdown dance competition.
Now they’re doing an announcer competition.
This doesn’t look like a tailgate.
Now a cornhole competition.
The winners got Super Bowl shirts, NFL hats, and koozies. One got reserved seats for the game. The other got a ship on a stick and a bottle of champagne.
Another White Russian.
Normally lido is dead at 5pm. People are claiming their seats for the game.
I’m getting Moo Hoo away from the crowd at the Tides Bar.
A little rehydration.
I’m keeping it casual with the Super Bowl and didn’t mess up the room. But I left a little test for my steward. I have high hopes. If he picks up the towel I know he’s sticking to the evening service he promised me. If he doesn’t I know he’s trying to force morning service on me.
I headed to the back of the ship to catch the sunset.
On the way back here I caught the buffet dinner menu.
This is what they’re having in the MDR tonight.
Any hope of getting a seat is probably gone. Before I got that beer all of those deck 12 seats were empty. Now they’re all full. I don’t have anyone to hold my seat anyway. It’s not something I’m going to sit at for hours for when the first time I get up its gone.
No normal Super Bowl commercials tonight.
Lido is filling up. I’m going down to check on the theater crowd.
There are quite a few.
I think a lot of people are trying to eat early. That under 10 minute wait is up to 30 and counting. Guys Burgers and Blue Iguana Cantina are open until 10pm. Those may be options for me.
My table was assigned at 6:06pm. I don’t think I would’ve made the game so I opted for Guy’s.
I found a spot at the end of the bar and this girl in the next seat was like “Oh that’s my seat. My friend is sitting here.” Of course.
I moved up to deck 11 and got a standing spot with all of the chairs moved. It’s just too windy here.
It’s still pregame so I figure I can find a spot down below where you can’t see anything.
This would actually be a usable seat if the cheap bamboo wasn’t there.
Here is a look at the pregame crowd.
I am going to skip ahead. For full coverage of the game check out: Super Bowl on Carnival Magic.
I hit my 15 drinks during the game so I’m done drinking for the night.
After the game I stepped out to check out the action in Ocean Plaza.
what’s In your head zombie?
The duo is playing Keith Whitley. The only song of his anyone ever plays. So I don’t have even have to say it. I don’t have to say anything at all.
I grabbed some ice and a water on my way back to the room. Super Bowl cleanup is well underway here.
They took the sign off. Maybe I’ll get to go out there tomorrow.
For now the outer door is still taped off.
One more of these before bed.
Not what I wanted to see from my steward.
Tomorrow is another sea day. Good night.
