Summit One Vanderbilt

on
October 17, 2022

Good morning! I have a lot to do today. I’m starting with Summit One Vanderbilt. I’m skipping breakfast as I try to make it for their 9am opening.

It looks like I’ve happened across The Today Show.

It’s Grand Central in here!

Grand Central Station is just across the street from One Vanderbilt. I have a few minutes to kill so I’m going to walk around.

It’s very much like an airport in here. Everyone is walking like they’re about to miss the flight to their daughter’s wedding.

I went down to a lower level which is all food.

You can actually walk from Grand Central underneath the street to One Vanderbilt.

I used the kiosk to get my ticket.

First you watch a video.

We’re going to be walking on glass floors and mirrored floors here so they make you put bags on your shoes.

This thing takes your picture. I think it’s for ordering pictures.

If you want sunglasses you can get them here. I did not.

We are now heading to the elevator.

This is why we have the bags on our shoes.

Over here we have to Hudson River. The cruise port and Intrepid should be covered up by those buildings.

We have a nice view of the Empire State Building. If you look way back in the middle you can see One World Trade Center.

There it is.

This is the best view of the Chrysler building.

That is the Queensboro Bridge.

And the Brooklyn Bridge.

The mirrors definitely make this experience unique.

This room just has dirty windows and something they call artwork in the middle. They do have a nice replica of One Vanderbilt at the far end of the room.

Just left of center here you can see Rockefeller Center where I did Top of the Rock. That’s the building with the NBC logo and Comcast on it.

This is a good look at Central Park.

Add a mirrored balloon room to the list that makes this a unique experience.

You have an amazing view of the Chrysler building from here.

We are taking an escalator up another level.

9392552D-0D2B-48A2-B0CC-99B81E6B0092.jpeg

This gets really interesting because we are now above the mirror room we were just in. Now we have reflections of people down there and people up here.

This is where you can go out on a glass floor. People were doing extensive photo shoots. I skipped it.

We went up another level. This is where you can check in for Ascent. That’s an add-on where you go up higher in a glass elevator on the side of the building for an additional $20.

5D4AEABB-AD05-42F9-A3B8-97ACB924D136.jpeg

Here you can purchase drinks and snacks. There is also a restaurant.

6A9554B7-10F0-44E9-8444-7D8BC1C2EECA.jpeg

The one thing that was missing on the lower levels is an open air observatory. You get that on your last stop.

73A2855D-5124-4A23-9508-70ED902ADC95.jpeg

There were some issues with spots on the windows on lower levels. At this level they are keeping them crystal clear.

They have a bar out here.

It’s a $20 upgrade for the glass elevator.

That was Summit One Vanderbilt. Next I’m heading to the World Trade Center.
