Regal Princess: Roatan
Good morning from Roatan. I have a pretty laid back day scheduled for today. I’m going to have a leisurely breakfast and coffee. Then get off the ship for a swim and a couple beers. I’ll come back for lunch at Alfredos. Then I’ll decide if I want to go back off or stay onboard. Dinner tonight is at the Chef’s Table.
The weather looks good.
Here is today’s schedule of events.
I think I’m going to try the rancheros in the dining room.
I’m cutting it close to the end of breakfast so I’m holding my good coffee until afterwards.
I should’ve gone it the left side. There’s always either a line here or they send me to the left side when I tell them I want my own table.
Yesterday was Eggs Benedict. I would’ve come for that as well.
The coffee tastes just like the Carnival MDR. It’s not great but it’s coffee.
The hash browns are better today. They weren’t crispy the other day. Also I asked for crispy bacon and it’s not. But that’s hit or miss at every cruise breakfast for me. I asked for eggs over easy. These are sunny side up.
Breakfast was nothing to write home about. I headed to the International Cafe for coffee.
This is the first time I’ve seen a significant coffee line this week.
The cakes are ridiculous. What they call a piece of cake I call….a cake…
I’m hooked on the butter pecan latte.
I feel like the Princess app is not user friendly. Things are buried. There’s a lot of scrolling. Scrolling is slow and if you accidentally touch something the wrong way while scrolling, it loads that page. That happens to me all the time. If you use your right thumb to scroll, it’s going to happen a lot.
I’m sitting here for 10 minutes trying to figure out what bar is open now. I always have to revert to the paper schedule I took a picture of.
I ordered two. Either he wasn’t hearing it or he wasn’t having it.
A little annoyance with the medallion is if you have a bartender that doesn’t know you, they ask your room number. I don’t have to worry about that most places because they know me now. The first day or two it was everywhere. And mine is on B (Baja deck) so I say B and they quite frequently confuse that with D or E so now I’m trying to get in a habit of saying Baja.
Fortunately this other bartender was on top of it when I finished the first one so it wasn’t a long wait for another.
It’s a lot better at the dining room and coffee shop because you just put your medallion up to a plate and you’re good. At the bars it’s a mess until they know you. They know me on lido and at Crooners but not here yet.
Another guy comes up. “Room number please?” D621. B621 sir? No D621.
Now there’s a guy who doesn’t know his number so they have to look up his name.
It’s annoying just sitting here listening to it. Non-stop people coming up for water to take ashore. I would really hate being a bartender having to operate that way.
The steward was in my room while I was at breakfast.
I never repacked my beach bags after Alaska so I’m going with this.
I’m going to grab a towel to take ashore. I like this feature. It seems most cruise lines have it this way but I’m used to Carnival who wants to charge you if you don’t bring the towel back.
I was going to purchase the lift pass since I had so much onboard credit but it wasn’t available for purchase in the app today. I guess if you want to use OBC on it you have to purchase it earlier.
I like to get a chair close to the showers. The foot wash stations are around the corner.
I couldn’t get on the front row but I got one with some shade.
It looks like Alfredos is 11am-11pm so I can eat at any time. I don’t want to eat too late with Chef’s Table tonight so I’ll try for no later than 1pm.
I can get the ship internet out here but it is a bit spotty.
This drunk lady just backed up to the beach drop off and fell flat on her backside.
Now it’s raining.
The rain did thin the crowd out “oh no we’re in the ocean and we might get wet!”
I spent about two hours in the water and I’m heading out.
Normally I would air dry in one of these bars with a couple Salva Vidas but I just realized I left my wallet on the ship. I have no money with me. I’m going to walk around the retail area and see if I can find a store that takes Princess pay and has a beer fridge but it seems to only be one or two stores per port.
Hey I know him. He’s the guy in the sombrero.
Only Diamonds International and Del Sol for Princess pay. I’m heading back to the ship.
Facial towels and water.
I stopped by the room to shower, change and grab some beers.
Club 6
I’m heading to Alfredo’s. This is an example of how the screens in the elevator lobby work.
I got a nice window seat.
It sure sounded like the waiter asked if I wanted gun powder with this. I just said no thanks.
You can do a half and half pizza so that’s what I did. This is half Hawaiian and half Capricciosa.
The lady at the table in front of me is getting really annoyed that they keep asking her cabin number. She says she gave it to them three times already.
Maybe the gun powder question was a joke. He just said it to another table and they laughed.
Tiramisu.
After lunch I headed up to the Sea View bar. This is a dirty banana.
The beach is empty now.
Next I got a mudslide.
They’ve had a couple movies on since I’ve been here.
The fountain is spouting.
Pina colada
The kids are in the fountain again. It’s kind of like taking water works and throwing it in the middle of the lido deck.
If you wanted to watch this movie. It would be impossible with all of the kids screaming. I guess if you don’t have a water park they bring the water park to you.
Bloody mary
I took that bloody mary back to the balcony to escape all of the kids screaming.
I’m making use of the Guinness I ordered to the room yesterday. There was a time when Guinness was all I drank back when Carnival had it.
I have some neighbors who think I should be subjected to their music on my balcony. I put my spotify on.
I needed to replenish my supply. This came in a new record time of 8 minutes.
For full coverage of Chef’s Table please check out Regal Princess Chef’s Table.
This is what they had in the dining room.
This was already in progress when I got out of Chef’s Table but I was able to catch a half hour of it. He does a lot of Jerry Lee Lewis, a little Ray Charles, and some Billy Joel.
Cruise Director Allie.
Another thing I went to that didn’t happen despite being on the schedule.
11:30 atrium
Crooners was shutting down so I grabbed a couple 1664’s to add to my stockpile for the long sea days ahead. That puts me with six coronas and four 1664s.
I fell asleep with Home Alone on. Tomorrow is the first of two consecutive sea days.
