Regal Princess: Debarkation Day
Good morning from Galveston!
They don’t waste any time. I guess it makes sense for people who have dead time In an airport today. I’m used to getting these 24-48 hours after getting off of the ship.
They were taking a long time on the one person here so I’m going to stop at the International Cafe.
On my way to coffee people were lined up everywhere.
The Texas flag is back in place.
They move this coffee line pretty quick. No personal touch though. Usually if I go to the same coffee shop six days in a row and order the same thing, I don’t have to tell them my order on the seventh day. Actually on Jewel I didn’t have to starting on the second day. No big deal but one of those things you notice.
Breakfast in the Alegro dining room.
Smoked salmon bagel
They want you out of the room at 8 here so I have to run and grab my bags. It’s 8:30 on Carnival and I believe NCL as well.
They started self embarkation at 7:25
I haven’t heard any announcements so maybe they just stick by this schedule.
Here are some rooms with couches and an interior
My least favorite thing about this ship is your name is on the door. Full name. Entire cruise. I could walk down the hallway and read all the names.
On debarkation day it changed to this screen with just your first name and the first initial of your last name. Apparently that’s a permanent change that just happened on the cruise after mine. I still don’t like it. I’ve been told you can request to have it removed at guest services. I will definitely do that next time.
There is no line for the gangway on deck 7 but I’m finishing my coffee before leaving.
I’m heading off at 8:27
We hit a snag At 8:31.
Now I know why there was no line on the ship. The entire ship is in here at 8:35.
I did hear someone say something about facial recognition but I call baloney sandwiches. We didn’t have facial recognition in Seattle or New York last year and there was no mess like this. 8:45am.
I made it to the luggage area at 8:49.
If you have your luggage exit left. Otherwise next room.
One thing I noticed that is different from other ports is instead of having a separate line for people with passports, everyone is in the same line.
Self assist and bag tag lines merge at 9:08.
9:23
9:28
It’s 9:30. I left the ship over an hour ago now. I noticed they’re only using 7 of the 11 stations.
The biggest holdup I see is they are fingerprinting people. I think maybe the non-passport people. In other ports without facial they have a passport line and a non-passport line. It was all one line here. The family in front of me took about 10 minutes. I took about 30 seconds.
I made it out of the port at 9:38. That was a 77 minute process after I left the ship. The worst I’ve seen in years. Maybe the worst ever.
They aren’t in the spot number they told me they’d be in but this is my Discount Cruise Parking shuttle.
I’m on the shuttle at 9:41.
We’re on the move at 9:52.
We made it to the lot at 9:59.
Here you can see how close the lot is to the ship.
I do recommend this parking lot especially for Princess cruisers. Some of the other lots jack up the prices on Princess or don’t even allow Princess at all.
Next time we’re coming back here to Galveston for Carnival’s newest ship the Jubilee.

So, in your opinion, would I have a hard time making a noon flight on United at IAH? Probably better to book the next one, which isn’t until 6:30 pm. I will be disembarking in Galveston on June 22. I have no early debarkation perks. What do you think?
Saint Greg
That’s a tough one. It’s a minimum 1 hour drive to IAH. I have only flown out of there once. That was in 2021 when I flew to Cozumel. That day it took me 45 minutes to get my bag checked and get through security. On the safe side I would say you want to leave the port by 9 to be at the airport around 10. In February with Priority debarkation I was out of the port at 7:55. But on Princess without priority and with facial recognition broken, I didn’t get out of the port until 9:38. You would be really pushing it if something like that happened.
Debbie
Thank you. I went ahead and booked 6:30. Better safe than sorry. I’ll just hang around the airport all day. I’ve done it before. 🙂
