Planet Hollywood Cancun: Day 7

on
May 24, 2021

Good morning! There were no 1am door slams from the neighbors this morning. It’s too early for the coffee shop right now so we’re going to take a quick tour of the beach and the Star Class pool area. I have my first ever COVID-19 test later this morning so that should be fun.

Here is a look at the list of daily activities.

And the weather.

As you can tell from the trees, it’s windy here. It’s been like that all week.

Most of the time these chairs and loungers are empty but those beach beds with the star on them are very popular.

A lot of times when it looks like there’s nobody on the beach, there are people in these.

These huts are where you can get a beach massage. One guy at the bar yesterday was talking about how great they were.

We are going to cross over to the Star Class pool area.

These are the Star Class pool cabanas. If you are in Star Class you can rent one of these for a day. The prices are in the $100-200 range depending on the package. If you have a book of resort credits there’s a coupon that will knock about $50 off of that cost of it one day. If you aren’t Star Class they have these for rent in the family and adult pool areas as well.

Star Class pool area.

This appears to be a secondary bar area. I don’t know if they open it up with bar service or not. I never walk through here during the hours when it would be open.

We are stepping over to the adult pool area. Like I said they have the pool cabanas here as well. They are loaded every afternoon when I walk through. Those plunge pools will have 3-7 people in each of them. I guess groups get together and rent the cabanas to share.

They have those beach beds by the pool as well.

They have cigars by the Twist bar if you want those. They also have a case like this in the hotel lobby.

It looks like they’re getting the stage ready for a Scooby Doo show tonight.

This is the most sought after seating for the shows at night.

I saw this chocolate bread sign so I thought I should try that.

I got two mochas this morning.

And a chocolate crossaint.

I have my COVID-19 test in a little over an hour.

This is the first time I’ve sat in these white chairs in the the buffet. They’re comfortable.

That Bloody Mary is extra spicy today.

I caught a fresh batch of these flauta looking things.

Flautas/taquitas are really good. I got another bloody mary.

COVID Test time.

I’m not a big fan of the guy running this COVID test.

My test is actually at 9:20. I showed up at 9:15. He says wait outside. There are about 30 people sitting outside. I ask If he’s going to call us or what? He wants to see my email showing the appointment time. I show it to him. He says wait outside. Again I ask if he’s going to call us or what? He just ignores me.

This guy is randomly walking up to people sitting outside asking their time and taking them in. He’s taking a group with 9:30 now. That’s what I was afraid of. There’s no line. No calling people by appointment times. He randomly picks people and as long as it’s after their appointment time, he takes them in. Moral of the story is don’t get here early. If I had walked in his office at 9:25 with a 9:20 appointment time he may have taken me. I came in at 9:15 with a 9:20 appointment time and people with 9:30 are getting tested ahead of me.

He just took another group. I better be next because there are only four other people left out here and I know they all got here in the past five minutes.  I’ve been waiting for 25 minutes.

He comes out again and is taking the people that just got here. I’m like oh heck no. He asked my appointment time. I say 9:20 (it’s 9:45 now). He asks if I’m here alone. I say yes. He takes me with that group. And I’m last in the group to get tested. Is it possible that this is one of those solo issues? He didn’t take me because I’m sitting here alone. I’m not happy that he wasted thirty minutes of my day testing people who had appointment times after mine.

The actual test happens behind these doors. They had two or three people in the room. You just sit down and look up at the ceiling and they swab you.

The test wasn’t bad just a little tickle. Bring your passport because they need that. After the test you sit outside again. The results came in 5 minutes.

After the test I checked out the gym because it’s right there next to the medical center.

When you walk in you can sanitize and get a bottle of water or a towel.

This is the first floor of the fitness center.

This part is upstairs.

I didn’t know all this was up here. It looks like you can just grab a basketball or tennis rackets and go.

They have a full court basketball court and two tennis courts up here.

When I got back downstairs the guy asked if I was working out today. I said “no, that was enough of a workout for me.”

Here are a couple quick spa pictures.

I made a visit to see Jesus at the Scene bar.

This came in email.

These dark pina coladas are very good.

I decided I needed to hit the bars I haven’t been to. This is the family pool bar and it’s packed!

By “packed” I mean just me.

The family pool bar is also known as the Point Break bar.

It’s a nice bar. I like that you don’t have your back to the ocean like the adult scene pool bar.

I had a Miami vice but apparently I forgot to take a picture before I started drinking it.

I’m moving to the last bar I haven’t been to. Point Break the sequel which is right across from the Point Break pool bar.

This is right next to The Shores lunch buffet and just steps for the family pool.

I got a banana colada here.

They have power outlets under the bar to charge your devices. That was the case at the beach bar and the scene bar as well. Bathrooms are right behind me. The only thing I don’t like about this bar is the stools are a bit low.

This is a look back at the family pool area as I cross over to the family beach.

It looks like there are a few customers at the beach bar. I’m going to head to the adult side to see if I can get lunch at Catch Seafood today.

Walking by the adult pool. It looks like Catch is open.

Grouper tacos

While I was waiting for my tacos I stepped to the restroom. When I came out my food was there but a couple was standing at my table reading my menu board and talking to the hostess about other lunch options. Seriously? There’s another menu board 10 steps away that isn’t at someone’s table

Seafood linguini

After lunch I stopped by the scene bar to have Jesus to make something he made for me the first day. It’s mostly kraken spiced rum but a little lime and a little something else with a sugar rim.

Next I moved to the Premier Bar in the main lobby. I’m still working drinking that menu.

This is the Planet Cooler. It’s my favorite drink on the menu so far.

Terminator is weird. I don’t know if it’s the beer or the bitters or both. It’s at the bottom of my list here.

“I’ll be back.”

The adult pool is about as busy as it’s been all week.

I’m having no problem getting drinks at this bar despite what the lady said yesterday. With 10 people at the bar and some walk ups it was less than a minute before I was helped

dirty banana

Foam party!

I am heading back to my room to watch some baseball in my swim out.

I’m bringing Dos Equis out of my fridge two at a time. Any more than that and they will get warm. The ice machines are shut down due to COVID. I might be able to get some from room service if I wanted to wait for that.

Earlier today someone checking out left all of this beer so I shouldn’t have to get any room beers from the bar the rest of the trip.

I have not seen anyone in these swim outs in my building since Sunday.

I’m really surprised the loud group next door hasn’t been camped out in theirs creating a ruckus.

Jesus’ bar is right through there.

They are firing up Braza. My plan for tonight is Gusto if it’s open. I’ll try Sutra first but I’m pretty sure they’re closed tonight.

That was a good spot to watch a game.

I showered and changed clothes. Now I’m out in search of dinner. Sutra is closed so I am going to try Gusto.

They have a 30 minute wait time. I’m going to use this as an opportunity for some night pictures.

And my buzzer just went off so now I have to figure out how to get from here to there. The lazy river is between this stage and Gusto so you can’t just walk straight to it unless you can walk on water.

A couple of cleaning people at the bathrooms behind me watched in horror as I climbed upon the stage between the River and the pool to find my way to Gusto.

I walked through a couple of grassy areas but I made it here without getting wet.

I guess I missed the white night memo.

If you’ve followed my two Gusto lunches you’re probably thinking the same thing I am. Where’s the cheese?

Antipasti

Lasagna

Steak in herbal sauce.

Tiramisu

I think it’s easy to tell at night which rooms haven’t been completed yet.

I think tonight’s show was my least favorite so far. It was mostly just dancing.

I’m heading back to the room for the evening. This is a look at the twist bar along the way.
