Planet Hollywood Cancun: Day 3
Good Morning! I’m getting a little bit of a late start today. I got up at 8am. I wanted to get totally ready and out of the room so housekeeping can do their thing. I had the do not disturb sign on since I got here. I’ll be changing that this morning.
This is today’s activity schedule.
Here is a look at the weather for today.
This is the channel lineup in the rooms. It’s a little more extensive than what you get on Carnival ships these days. I wouldn’t get too excited about all of the sports channels. They seemed to always have soccer, water polo, or formula one racing on. I would usually find a good movie on one of the movie channels. Sony was a good channel for that. I enjoy Pawn Stars and American Pickers so I left the TV on The History Channel a lot as well.
I am changing the door sign and heading out for coffee.
The Fuel line is to the door this morning.
They do have three people behind the counter today so the line is moving quickly.
These are the pastries they have today.
I got a regular coffee and a double chocolate latte.
I’m taking Jesus’ advice from yesterday and stopping in the buffet for a Bloody Mary since the bars aren’t open yet.
Good and spicy!
I got strawberry crepes from the crepe station. They don’t seem cooked enough for me. I’m just going to finish my Bloody Mary and head back to Fuel for some pastries.
I picked up a danish and a muffin from Fuel. The muffin is good but the danish is better.
They mop the hallway every morning.
And they’re cleaning the swim outs. Mine is two down from the one he’s cleaning now.
The Scene bar is packed as usual.
I stopped at the Scene bar and go another spicy bloody mary from Jesus.
Another guy at the bar said Jesus makes a really good pina colada with dark rum. I’m trying one now. It’s good. In case you’re wondering that’s a pineapple leaf in the drink.
The lady next to me got a Mexican candy shot. I’ve heard they are dangerous.
I got another pina colada.
This couple went on an excursion to Cozumel yesterday and enjoyed it. So they’re telling me “you have to go to Cozumel!” They were shocked when they found out I’ve been there 10 times.
It looks like my room should be good.
The room looks good. They didn’t stock my fridge so I’m going to have to remember to grab water from the bars to bring back.
Whoa some topless sunbathing going on across the way.
I picked up a couple bottles of water from Jesus for the fridge because I know I’ll forget.
I really need to go flip flop shopping. I wanted to get some Planet Hollywood flip flops but they didn’t have them. I’m going to head over to the other retail stores.
If I find myself in need of a Mexican hat, this is the store. No flip flops though.
No flip flops here either.
This isn’t the place either.
This is it. Pier 27. They have flip flops on the wall behind that hat rack.
New shoes! I don’t know what size scale they use here but apparently I’m a 29 in Mexico. For reference I’m about a 12 give or take, depending on the brand, in the United States. 30 was the largest size they had and that was only in the rubber flip flops.
Flip flops were 30% off which came to $18. That’s about what I paid for the ones I brought here. I thought that was a great price for good flip flops from a resort store. The rubber ones would’ve been $5 cheaper.
I am going to try the Catch Seafood for lunch.
They have have some landscaping going on.
I saw they had a hose in our swim outs as well so they were doing something there. From what I could tell it didn’t look like anyone in my building used their swim outs yesterday. I think my neighbors on the one side are gone–the mother and daughter. And I think that first swim out on the other side of them is empty as well. Really I haven’t seen anyone in my building today.
I ran into a little snag with lunch. I haven’t really looked at the restaurant schedule. I was under the impression that an adult restaurant was always open for lunch and dinner. Catch for lunch with Braza and Catch alternating for dinner. Catch is closed. The lady working there recommended the buffet. The buffet is closed. Gusto is closed except for their pizza window. I thought they were open every day. They said they are rotating lunch and dinner this week and it changes week to week. I ordered a calzone from their pizza window. They said 6 minutes. Odd it takes 15 at home. I get the calzone and it is, in my opinion, undercooked.
This is just doughy to me.
So I tossed calzone and I’m at Guy’s. Burger Joint now. I was sitting right outside Guy’s anyway.
At least they know how to cook a burger here.
I’m going to head down to the beach.
These two buildings are some of the wedding facilities they have. There is also an indoor/outdoor area above Gusto that can be used for weddings.
Family pool check.
Family beach check.
Family beach bar.
If you look out there you can see the Isle of Mujures. That is one of the popular excursion destinations here. You take a boat out there then you can rent a golf cart for the day and drive around the island.
I’m not a huge beach person so I don’t know how common this is but there’s a lot of seaweed coming in today.
You can see big patches of it out there.
Now I’ve walked down to the adult side and it’s looking better. You don’t see big piles coming in here–Just little bits.
Roberto from the beach bar saw me and met me on the beach with a drink. I was about to stop by his bar anyway.
A better view of the drink.
I was telling Roberto about my lunch dilemma. He said the lunch buffet is at The Shores. I had to break out my map. That is way down on the other side of the family pool. I haven’t crossed that pool yet.
Roberto made me a mango tango. It’s strawberry and peach. Or is it mango? That would make more sense.
It’s another yellow flag day.
They have the pool grill going again. I guess that’s always a lunch option as well.
I stopped by the lobby bar but Jesus isn’t around. I think there’s a communication gap with this other bartender I asked him for something sweet and he made me something called a rum sour.
After a couple days of postponements my team is playing but not on any of the tv stations here. I grabbed a couple to go beers from the bar and I’m hanging out by my swim out.
I think I felt a rain drop. Something could be brewing here. It is nice that they put those big umbrellas in the room if it does rain.
It definitely started sprinkling so I pulled back to the porch with my electronics.
If I had a club I could practice some putting here. Or film a backyard episode of the Brady Bunch.
We’re in extra innings here. I don’t think any drops have come down since I moved. My neighbor came out and laid on her outdoor bed which I have a direct view of from my porch so I moved back to mine for her privacy.
Another shower started so I had to move again.
Ballgame.
While getting ready for dinner I just realized I didn’t remove my anti-wrinkle system when I opened the room to housekeeping this morning. She probably thinks I’m nuts. It does work though.
I’m going to La Cocina tonight. That’s the Mexican restaurant.
They are claiming a 20 minute wait so I’m at the Twist bar until my buzzer goes off.
And I’m watching game two of the double header on my iPhone.
I love this. I’m a big guac fan so they could’ve filled all three bowls with guac and I’d be happy. They warn the one on the left is very hot. I was laughing when I tried it because it doesn’t hit you all at once, but it is very hot.
I couldn’t decide between the shrimp appetizer or the lamb tacos so they brought both.
Steak tacos. I wish you could smell these. It’s like when you’re at a Mexican restaurant that brings out the sizzling steak fajitas and you can smell it all the way over at your table. That’s what these tacos smell like.
Flan for dessert. It’s all very good. So far this is my favorite restaurant.
After dinner I headed to the theater which is really just outside of the restaurant. It’s Glam Rock night which is a band called The Shockers with a Freddie Mercury impersonator. They do about an hour of Queen songs.
When I was researching resorts and reading reviews so many had people saying “You have to see the Michael Jackson impersonator.” It was definitely the RIU resorts and I think some others. I guess Planet Hollywood has Freddie Mercury instead but apparently there’s a really good Michael Jackson impersonator that does shows at the various resorts.
That show was definitely entertaining. I’m going to call it a night after that.
