Panorama: Cabo San Lucas

Wow after dinner I came back to the room to change out of elegant clothes. I laid down for a minute and looked at the fun times, the next thing I know it’s 2:30am. I just slept 7 hours.

I tried to go back to sleep but I couldn’t.

Here is the Fun Times for today.

This is what lido deck looks like at 5am.

I’m heading to down the coffee shop on Promenade.

I know I read the coffee shop was supposed to be open at 5:15. It doesn’t look anywhere near ready to open.

I encountered an employee going behind the coffee shop counter. He said he thought they opened at 7am. I’m going to check my Fun Times.

That clearly indicates 5:15am for the JavaBlue cafe and 7am for the Shake Spot. I wonder if it’s a misprint.

Right next to the coffee shop is where you can request a table for your time dining. You can also do it using the carnival app or by just walking up. But this way you can actually get your request in before the dining room opens.

I just walk up to the dining room personally. It’s easy for me to get a small table at the beginning of dinner service. Now if you need a table for eight at 7pm, it may be a little more difficult.

I have some time to kill so I’m going to see if I can get out to the Havana area. The Havana bar is open to everyone but the Havana pool area is only open to guests who are staying in Havana cabins.

That’s the area that is open to everyone. Let’s see if I can get out to the pool area before everyone wakes up.

I still have time to kill before the coffee shop opens. Lido coffee is available but I want coffee shop coffee. I’m going to go to one of the “secret” decks above the bridge and get some sunrise pictures.

I was above the bridge for those shots. I’ve moved down one level so I can get the bridge.

I’m going to head over to the buffet. I’m thinking about maybe grabbing something to eat. I’m not a big buffet person but if I can be the first one to the food I’m okay with it.

Apparently continental breakfast opened at 6:30 but the buffet doesn’t open until 7. I was sitting at a table between the continental and regular food contemplating if I should go for continental, wait for the full buffet, or neither. As soon as I saw a kid sneeze into his hand just before grabbing the tongs with that hand, my decision was made.

While I was sitting there it was very entertaining watching people try to figure out what food is open and what isn’t.

One lady walks in, grabs a plate, and is about to help herself to the main buffet before it’s open. One of the workers tells her it doesn’t open until 7. As she walks away she points to people with the continental breakfast plates and says “clearly people are eating already. The buffet isn’t open yet, but clearly people are eating.”

It looks like the coffee shop opened at 7. I guess we’re going by the shake spot time in schedule, not the coffee shop time.

I went with a regular mocha today. Yesterday I did white chocolate mocha.

I stepped down one deck to the Hero’s Bar. Even though the bar isn’t open this early they have TVs on ESPN and the volume up.

After I finished my mocha I wanted just a regular coffee. I skipped the long line at the coffee bar and got one at the Ocean Plaza bar which is now open.

Breakfast time!

I was more descriptive on my table preference this morning and I got a better result. I think I said “alone, by myself, not right next to a bunch of tables you’re about to put people in.”

Egg white frittata and hash browns.

After breakfast I stopped by the atrium bar for a spicy Bloody Mary no external fruits or vegetables by request.

We are getting close to Cabo.

We have passed the Royal Princess.

Let’s see what they’re watching.

One more.

Huervos Rancheros from the Blue Iguana Cantina.

I’m heading down to do some whale watching and I’m not talking about by the pool.

The priority water shuttle service meeting point is the main lounge.

There was quite a line when we got off of the water shuttle.

They have signs for all of the Carnival excursions.

I’m early for my excursion so I’m going to check out the port area and use the bathroom.

If you go straight ahead you can exit the port area.

The big yellow sign will also direct you to bathrooms that charge $1.

If you take a right back at the yellow sign instead of going straight, they have free bathrooms in this information center just past Senor Frogs.

I stopped by Senor Frogs for a beer. They didn’t have WiFi. I should’ve found a place that had Wifi. I also forgot that my excursion had all the alcohol you can drink included.

I returned and to my surprise nobody is in line at the whale watching excursion sign.

It turns out the big line off to the side was the line.

After a few minutes a lady comes with a form for everyone to sign. At 12:35 a guy comes and says the boat is already here we’re going to be leaving very very soon. At 12:44 the line starts to move.

This is the boat and it’s pretty darn full. I opt for the top because I don’t want to be stuck in the middle of that bottom part and not be able to see anything. I recommend getting there early if you want to pick a good seat.

They had a bathroom downstairs but I never went down there.

This is the initial bar line.

The boat is equipped with a DJ.

Whale Watch Intro

I apologize for the camera work in this video. It was windy. The waters were rough. I was standing trying to film with one hand and hold a drink with the other without dropping my phone, spilling my drink or falling down.

On the ride to the whales it was standing room only on the top deck. On the way back there was plenty of space. I think some people went downstairs to use the bathroom and never returned. I had an entire bench to myself.

Here is a taste of the ride back. The waiters continued delivering drinks despite the rough waters. In fact at one point the guy in charge grabbed a tray of Dos Equis and just started handing them out to people who didn’t even order them.

After I got back to the room I showered and got dressed for dinner. I haven’t made any reservations but I want to eat at the steakhouse.

I was able to walk up and get a table right away at the steakhouse. I was able to pick out my table. The hostess laughed and said this is the most popular table for solo cruisers.

Compliments of the chef. This is salmon and pastrami with mustard ice cream.

My favorite drink in the steakhouse is the watermelon martini.

Risotto

Baby spinach salad

Baked potato

Filet

Here are the salt options for the steak. I went with siracha and thought it was pretty good.

Chocolate sphere

This is what they had in the MDR tonight:

After dinner I headed down to the comedy club. I missed the first PG show and I’m about 5 minutes late for the second one. There are a few seats open but I’m just going to stand in the back.

I showed back up 5 minutes before the first adult comedy show and was able to get a seat but the place is filling up fast. ;This seat has a view that is obstructed by a pole which is why they have TV screens on each side of the stage.

I returned 10 minutes before the final adult comedy show of the night and there was plenty of seating available.

They announced we will be shifting time forward an hour tonight so we will only be one hour off of local time in Mazatlan tomorrow. I have been up for almost 24 hours so I am heading to bed.
