Panorama: 1st Sea Day

March 30, 2020

Good morning!

It was kind of a rough night last night. Between midnight and 3am there were at least three occurrences inebriated people screaming in the hallway.

In the 2am hour I thought I heard an elevator. I’m close to the elevator lobby, but not that close.

So I had broken sleep from 12-3. Then finally good sleep 3-6. And I haven’t been able to go back to sleep. I’m still not fully adjusted to the time zone here so it feels later than it is now.

I am able to stream live TV using my premium internet package and my YouTubeTV package. This is not something you can do in your room on every Carnival ship. The Vista class has a better internet system than the older ships.

I’m going to get up and get ready for breakfast in the Main Dining Room.

I did some investigating and found where the elevator noise was coming from. This crew hallway with an elevator is right next to my room.

Ocean Plaza on the Promenade deck has a little breakfast buffet most people don’t know about. Here is what they have this morning.

The coffee line shop line was 10 deep. They do have coffee at the Ocean Plaza bar but they don’t open until 8. The Havana bar has Cuban coffee but they don’t open until 10. I stuck with the regular coffee shop line.

Here is a look at the schedule of events for today.

I was heading down the aft stairs to the deck three to get in line for brunch when I noticed they were opening the doors ten minutes early on deck four. I stopped there and was able to get in immediately.

This is a great table for me. Nobody next to me. Nobody in front of me. I have to get one of these tables at dinner.

I want something different so I’m going to try the frittata with a side of hash browns.

After breakfast I stopped by the Fun Shop to pick up my traditional souvenir.

Next I headed down to the Atrium bar for an extra spicy bloody mary.

I’m going to head to the Pig & Anchor Smoke house-Brew house to try their Bloody Mary. It looks good.

On my way to the Pig & Anchor I noticed Anna Maria from the Alchemy bar is doubling at the coffee shop this morning.

I’m going back in the MDR for lunch. I want to try the cantina burger there.

I’m not happy with the seating situation. I asked for a table for one. They put me at a table for four where five tables for four are basically pushed together into one table. Nobody was at the other tables so I went with it.  Now they’re seating people at all of the other tables. Essentially I’m at one really big table now.

I’m going to head up to lido deck to check out the gelato situation.

They have hazelnut and raspberry.

I went with raspberry.

Here is a look at what they have on the buffet right now.

Cakes

On my way back to the room I found this.

This was a bird of some kind but I accidentally knocked it off of the bed.

In December I had a steward with a good Christmas name, Jesus. This time I have another.

As a Platinum guest I have access to the priority water shuttle in Cabo San Lucas tomorrow. Here is the letter.

I also received my ticket for my whale watching excursion in Cabo.

Here is a look at the TV channel list. It looks about the same as my last cruise but they removed the free movie channels. There are free movies down in the on demand movies but you have to click on each movie to find out if it’s free or not. It looks like they have about 130 on demand movies.

Back out on lido deck they have the lip synch battle auditions going on.

I feel like the quality of this screen is better than the other ships. As it should be since it’s the newest.

I’m grabbing a Pina Colada at the Red Frog Rum Bar.

After the lip synch battle I decide to check out the Serenity Bar which became one of my favorite hang outs on my last couple of cruises.

People love the salad bar up here. It’s non-stop action.

Woah. A lady just poured like an entire bottle of salad dressing in her bowl.

I don’t like to his Serenity bar as much as magic. It’s bigger, more people, more bartenders, not as good a view…unless you like watching people grazing on salads.

I finally caught it empty.

It’s a bit chilly out here with the wind. I’d say this is definitely the coldest cruise I’ve been on. This is my third late Feb-early March cruise and I’ve had two December cruises. Those cruises have all been out of Galveston, New Orleans, and Fort Lauderdale. This is my first out of Southern California.

A guy at the bar wanted a straw. “Sir we only give out straws with frozen drinks.” I can’t get a straw? Finally they give him a sugar straw and tell him it will change the flavor of his drink.

I sought a warmer location so I’m inside at the Pig & Anchor on Promenade deck. I’m going to try some of their locally brewed beers I haven’t had. This is their lager.

At 4 I headed down to Alchemy bar for opening. I barely got here in time. It had only been open for five minutes and there was only one bar spot left.

Zoran is the only alchemist here at the moment. I told him rum or vodka sweet. He had the bar waiter Doan make it. Now this is good. It’s a pineapple rum drink.

Zoran made this one. It looks sweet. It looks good. I see raspberry chunks in it.

That raspberry drink was really good. After that I headed back to the room to get ready for elegant night.

Normally I would’ve snuck off yesterday or today to iron my shirt and pants. I heard a tip that you can actually get the wrinkles out of clothes just by hanging them in the bathroom while you’re in the shower. I tried that today and it worked!

I made it to the MDR for dinner. It was a challenge to find an available table that I liked but we finally got it.

They are doing “showtime” here at 6pm. It seems like it’s more around 7 on most ships. For those who don’t know “showtime” is where the waiters sing and dance. Most people enjoy it. I try to avoid it because it can delay the delivery of food.

“Showtime”

I am able to stream the Lakers vs. Pelicans game in the MDR with no problems. No delays. Just like back home.

Mushroom Bisque

Baby Spinach Salad

Shrimp, Lobster, Mushroom Risotto, Broccoli

Creme Brulee

Wow after dinner I came back to the room to change out of elegant clothes. I laid down for a minute and looked at the fun times. The next thing I know it’s 2:30am. I just slept 7 hours.

I probably needed that because I haven’t had sleep like that in a few days. My problem now is I’m wide awake at 2:30am. This isn’t the schedule I want. I need to get some more sleep but 8 hours is pretty much the max for me.

Cabo San Lucas is up next.
