New York Magic: Travel Day
Good morning from The Parking Spot shuttle. That happened really fast. I parked and the shuttle picked me up. There were seven of us. Those of us going to New York City on Spirit are last to be dropped off.
I used the kiosk to print off my boarding pass and luggage tag.
Then I used the self bag tag line to check my luggage. Over 40 pounds is considered a heavy bag and is subject to an additional fee. Mine came in at 39.4 pounds.
It’s not the easiest process. You have to tag your bag, scan your boarding pass, scan your passport, smile for the camera and lay your bag flat on the conveyor belt so the scanner can read the bag tag. They have just one person here to help everyone. I had to help the lady next to me after I did mine.
I was through security in eight minutes.
The bar is open.
And it’s right next to my gate.
I wouldn’t mind a Dunkin Donut but that’s quite a line.
I think I’ll get Chicken Minis instead.
That took a long time. Seating with tables is tough to find this morning. Chick-Fil-A had theirs roped off. I know this terminal like the back of my hand. I normally come through security by a food court so that’s where went to find a seat.
I was going to the line and as I’m attempting to get in it the line keeps growing. Fine I keep walking until it stops and get in the back. I’m moving and these two Eastern European guys try to merge in front of me. I wasn’t having it . They’re behind me.
There’s plenty of room to stretch out in the big front seat.
Our pilot says he’s been flying for three days. You’d think they’d give us someone with more experience than that.
We can’t back out because a plane broke down behind us. They gave us an estimate of 10 minutes for someone to come tow it out of our way.
It looks like They have moved the obstruction.
We are backing out now. One person clapped.
People are lining up for this forward bathroom. It’s worse than Dunkin’ Donuts.
One girl in the bathroom line stepped over in front of my neighbor. It took her a couple seconds to realize that wasn’t a common area. That was his area.
I tried to purchase internet with an hour to go in the flight but it timed out twice so I gave up.
$6.99 for internet now. I remember way back when….last year flying to LAX and paying just $1 for internet. Those were the days!
So this is New York. Feels small and crowded so far.
Carousel 1. It’s the only one here.
It definitely feels like an old airport that hasn’t been updated in awhile–Just the little bit I walked through. But it’s small. You can’t possibly get lost. And hopefully easy to get in and out of.
I wanted to stop by the restroom while I’m waiting on them to unload the bags. Once you are in the baggage area you have to go next door to the departures terminal to use the bathroom.
When I returned to the baggage area I used the kiosk there to purchase an unlimited metro card. It cost $34 ($33 + $1 for the card).
The M60 bus will take me to the subway. What you have to do is insert your metro card into that kiosk, push the silver button, and it prints out your bus receipt.
It took me a minute to figure out where to find the bus and subway information on City Mapper. At this point I’m not really sure where I get off at.
I think I’m In Harlem.
I’m definitely in Harlem.
I’m going to get off at by the subway station up ahead.
It looks like I need the A train and get off at Columbus Circle.
That’s Columbus Circle.
Look kids Big Ben, Parliament.
I just walked the wrong way and went in a big circle. I’m back on track now.
This is Central Park on the left. That’s what I was expecting to see.
I made it.
Now the New York adventure begins!
