New York Magic: Sail Away
I got what I thought was going to be a good spot for sail away. Then I realized I’m probably going to want to be on the other side of the ship for the city view.
The captain said sail away is delayed because we still have people who haven’t completed their mandatory safety briefing also known as the muster drill.
I moved to the other side of the ship and we are now pulling away–An hour late.
The first thing we pass is the USS Intrepid. The covered area is the space shuttle pavilion which contains the space shuttle Enterprise and other related exhibits. To the left of Intrepid we can see the back side of a British Airways Concorde.
This is a look at the other side of Intrepid.
We are now passing Vessel which is a controversial artistic stairway. It is currently closed after being the site of several suicides.
The ledge up top is the The Edge at Hudson Yards.
We are now coming up on One World Trade Center which hosts the One World Observatory.
We can see Oculus from here. That’s the shopping mall/subway station in the World Trade Center complex that was designed to look like a hand releasing a dove.
We are now in the area where the Staten Island ferry operates.
Is that a hot tub or a kiddie pool?
We are now coming up on the Statue of Liberty. I got some good pictures of it on the Staten Island Ferry. Now I’m going to get some later in the day.
We can see a Princess cruise ship docked in Brooklyn.
There’s another Staten Island Ferry. I bet they are getting some good pictures of the ship and the statue.
We are now coming up on the Verrazzano-Narrows bridge. I moved to the front of the ship for this part.
This bridge connects Staten Island and Brooklyn.
That was definitely the best sail away I have had in my twenty cruises. Now I’m going to go get ready for dinner.
