New York Magic: Bermuda Day 1
Good morning from Bermuda! We’re going to be parked here for two days. Let’s have a quick look around.
Here is today’s Fun Times.
I got up at 8:30. That 9am breakfast closing time really snuck up on me. I just missed it. Everyone who didn’t eat before 9 is trying to do so now on lido deck, which really feels like everyone on the ship.
They do have this small buffet line in the back of lido that isn’t crowded.
I went with a burrito.
I think I got everything except for sausage.
The coffee line isn’t bad. Probably because everyone is up on lido deck.
I got a mocha.
Then I headed to the casino bar for a bloody mary.
Here’s a quick look at around the casino while it’s empty.
I’m going to balance out that spicy with some sweet from a Fun Ship.
Prior to this cruise they canceled my prepaid full cruise premium internet plan saying they would only be offering the value plan and on a pay per day basis. They refunded me in onboard credit.
Since there was no line at Guest Services I decided to stop and there, take my internet refund in cash, and apply my $190 gift card that was left over from Splendor to this account. The reason I’m doing that is I get my gift cards at a 10% discount and they’ll give me 100% of that refund in cash.
I headed back to the room to get ready to head to the beach for the day. Here are a few pictures of the Royal Navy Dockyard.
It looks like this steward, Rafael, is going to give twice a day service even though I only asked for evening.
My room is actually pretty quiet other than that ceiling rattling. When it stops it’s quiet. It’s surprising that I can sleep past 8am and not hear someone in the hallway. No talking, screaming, or door banging. Maybe it’s this location at the very front of the ship. I’ve been in this area for four straight cruises.
I have my beach bag packed and I’m ready to head out for the day.
Despite what this sign says, masks were only required in the small terminal building you pass in and out of on your way to and from the ship.
Before I head to the beach I want to have a couple beers at the English style pub they have here. I doubt I’ll want to stop on the way back.
Across from the Pub is an old fort with a moat. It’s a museum now.
The courtyard shared by the pub and other buildings is where food storage and preparation happened when this was an active naval yard.
The food is very fresh here.
Very fresh
I sit down and order a beer. I’m starting with a stout.
They have wifi. You have to ask the bartender for an access code. Multiple people can use the same code. It’s only good for an hour. Then you have to request a new code.
These loud obnoxious guys who clearly have that New York accent take up the stools to my right. They start buying shots left and right and making sure everyone in the building knows about it. They offered me shots but I declined. I need to get to the beach.
I’m going to continue through the port area to meet the shuttle that takes you to Horseshoe Bay.
I guess you can catch a shuttle to take you back to the ship here.
I ran out of hairspray in New York and they don’t have any on the ship so I’ve been going au naturale for a couple days. This pharmacy had Garnier for 7.25 and Pantene for 10.50. Neither are my brand so I just got the Garnier.
You have to go about halfway through this mall to get out to the shuttle area.
For full coverage of my time at Horseshoe Bay please read Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda. Now I’m going to skip to after I got back.
The shuttle dropped us off pretty close to the ship.
I’m hungry and don’t want Guy’s which is all that’s open on the ship at this point so I’m heading back to Frog and Onion.
This time I’m going with the Amber Ale.
Shepherd’s pie.
Al from New Jersey got a flight. I’m using his internet code to get online.
And we’re walking back.
They have a couple of spots for photo ops here near the ship.
There’s a bit of a line to get back on.
When I got back to my room. Raphael had left me an invitation to the Platinum/Diamond party. I may be able to make an appearance.
The Alchemy Bar was full so I slid into Red Frog Pub for a Toasted Amber.
Maybe I should’ve found some place in town to go tonight. There is no comedy. I don’t think the dive-in movie is anything I want to see. Country Road is the show. Alchemy will be loaded with nothing going on.
The string trio is playing in the atrium.
I ended up going to Country Road.
Then I requested a table for dinner.
I’m building my own Italian theme tonight.
Caesar salad.
Fried mozzarella.
Meatballs.
Spaghetti.
Bitter n blanc.
I’m overhearing the conversation of this couple next to me. The lady asks the husband how much they paid per day for the drink package. She says she wants to make a proposal to guest services. They already offered her a free excursion. But she wants to come back with a counter proposal for them and she needs to know how much Cheers cost per day.
How much time can someone have on a five day cruise to be making proposals and counter proposals with guests services? It sounded like they also got a free bottle of wine at dinner.
After dinner I headed to the Alchemy Bar but it is mega full. The U.S. Open and New York Yankees are on in Red Frog Pub.
I may have found an example of why I may need the premium. All of my Mets streams take me to a page saying upgrade is not available. I think this means if I want to stream Mets games, I need their premium wifi.
I took my $25 in free play to the casino. Instead of messing with the $6 tables I just put it down on a $25 table where nobody was playing and played it until I lost the free play chip. I walked away with $75.
I’m having some serious internet problems.
My 24 hour plan expired so internet wasn’t working. But it wouldn’t let me purchase a plan another 24 hour plan. It’s giving me an error saying I already have an active plan. The plan it’s referencing is my premium plan. The plan I purchased pre-cruise that was refunded.
I went down to Guest Services and got my internet situation squared away. They had to deactivate that plan for me to purchase a 24 hour plan. I don’t know why that issue came up on day 3 when I’ve been using the 24 hour plans since day 1.
The Mega Deck Party is happening on Lido.
Cruise Director Ryan is leading things.
I can tell my steward, Rafael, was back in here because the bed wasn’t perfect like that and my towels have been replenished. He’s giving me twice a day service.
The rattling stopped. Hopefully for good. Tomorrow we’ll still be in Bermuda. Good night.
