New Orleans Hotel Review: TownePlace Suites

on
July 20, 2020

I actually have a long history with this hotel. This is the hotel I used to stay in every time I was in New Orleans prior to Hurricane Katrina. At the time it was a Radisson. It just re-opened in 2018 as TownPlace Suites. This will be my first time staying at this hotel in 15 years.

One of the most attractive features of this hotel is it’s a short walk to the French Quarter, a short walk to the Superdome, and just a couple blocks from a street car stop. It’s about a 2 mile Uber/Lyft to the port.

The valet drop off is right on Canal Street. It used to be around the corner and it used to be much cheaper. These prices are right in line with the current prices at the majority of hotels in this area.

As you can see this stay wasn’t recent. It was December 16th 2019 for the Saints/Colts Monday Night Football game. Carnival Valor was in port that day.

Immediately on the right when you walk in they have an area with TVs couches and a business center with computers and a printer.

The front desk is straight ahead. The bar is to the left and the elevators to the right.

Just past the elevators they have a little store and an ATM.

They have water and coffee available to the left of the front desk.

Through the sliding door by the coffee is where they have the complimentary breakfast in the morning.

Seating is available in the breakfast area and there are additional tables in the bar area.

Here is a look at the lobby bar.

This is the fitness center.

My room is on the 9th floor all the way down at the end of the hallway.

I love this room. It is surrounded by windows.

That’s a view of Canal Street.

This room has all of your cooking and cold storage needs covered.

The pool is actually right out this window to the left but it was drained and did not appear to be open in December.

The room has a modern bathroom with a walk-in shower.

We have moved up to the 14th floor. This is the rooftop bar.

This is a look down Canal Street.

Here is a look at downtown New Orleans. You can see part of the Superdome on the right.

Canal Street at night.

I was able to catch Carnival Valor departing from the rooftop bar. It is passing the St. Louis Cathedral in this video.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in this hotel and it has a new name but I still love it. I love the big room with all of the windows. I love the rooftop bar. It’s not the most convenient hotel to the port but if you’re looking for one that is just a short walk to the French Quarter and a short Uber/Lyft to the port, this could be the hotel for you.
