New Orleans Hotel Review: Holiday Inn Downtown Superdome
The Holiday Inn Downtown Superdome is one of the hotels in New Orleans that offers a cruise package. Their package includes up to eight nights of parking but no transportation to or from the port.
I’ve never booked this cruise package, but I have stayed at this hotel about a dozen times. This hotel is two blocks from Canal Street, five blocks from Bourbon Street, and a 1.5 mile drive from the port. I have been able to book it in the $70-100 per night range on Hotwire.com for the past few years.
I do enjoy parking at this hotel more than any other in New Orleans. Many New Orleans hotels are valet only. The Holiday Inn has a nice big garage built into the hotel where you are able to park yourself. I try to get a spot close to the elevators. The garage is above the lobby and below the rooms so the elevators will take you up to your room or down to the lobby.
Downstairs they have the Streetcar Restaurant and the Clarinet Bar. I have not eaten in the restaurant but I have used the bar on several occasions. It gets crowded on Sunday during football season. The year before last they added a mobile bar to the lobby area on Sundays. They did not have the mobile bar last year.
The Streetcar Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s hours are 6:30am to 2pm and 5pm to 10pm. Here is a look at their menus:
Here is a look at the bar which is just outside of the restaurant.
I have found the rooms to be nice, clean, and comfortable. I do wish the TV was bigger.
I prefer hotels with walk-in showers. This hotel has the old shower/tub combo. One nice feature is the second sink outside of the bathroom. This is very useful if you have two or more people staying in the room.
One of my favorite features at this hotel is the balcony. You won’t find very many hotels in the downtown area that have balconies.
They do have a nice pool area on the 8th floor. I’ve been close to the pool and I’ve been high above the pool.
When the express checkout on the TV is working you can take the elevator directly down to your vehicle. I try to park near the elevator lobby for convenience. I have been able to check out over the phone when the express checkout was not functioning.
