New Orleans Hotel Guide: Hyatt Regency

on
March 29, 2021

Hyatt Regency is one of the nicest hotels in New Orleans. Located next to the Superdome and Smoothie King Center, Hyatt Regency has several bars and restaurants inside of it and convenient access to the streetcar system with a stop just outside of the hotel.

Location

Hyatt Regency is just over a mile from the Port of New Orleans. That’s an $8-10 Uber/Lyft on most days.

One nice feature is the proximity to Rouse’s Market–The only full super market in the downtown area. It’s less than a quarter of a mile on foot and would be a great place for you to pickup wine and any other last minute items for your cruise.

Right out in front of the hotel is a streetcar stop that will take you to the French Quarter.

Parking

This hotel offers valet parking and self parking. If you want to use valet, just pull in under the covered area. Valet parking is $42 at this hotel.

If you want to save some money or just don’t want to give your car to valet, you can continue down to the traffic light and take a right on Girod Street.

The garage on Girod Street only costs $25 for 24 hours and actually connects to the second floor of the hotel.

Transportation

This is the streetcar stop outside of the hotel.

Street car prices are $1.25 per ride or you can get an unlimited day pass for $3. Here is a video the ride from Hyatt Regency to Canal Street.

Check-In

The front desk has plenty of agents. They have bellmen available to help you with your luggage if you want or they can store your luggage if you arrived before you room is ready.

The Hyatt is equipped with smart elevators. You can select your floor on the tablet or scan your room card. It will tell you which elevator to get in.

This is inside of one of the elevators. You can see how close we are to the Superdome.

Rooms

This is a look at a king room.

This is a two bed room.

If you are lucky you may get a room with a nice view of the Superdome.

They do have a limited number of rooms that actually have balconies.

The balcony room I was in didn’t have a Superdome view but I was still able to see Champions Square and the Smoothie King Center.

Pool

This is a look down at the pool area from one of the rooms. They have a bar down there as well.

Dining

Borgne is the seafood restaurant at Hyatt. It is located to the left of the front desk. Borgne was a John Besch restaurant until 2017 when he had to step down from his restaurant group due to sexual harassment allegations.

Borne is open for lunch and dinner. You can view their menu here.

On the second floor is 8 block restaurant and bar which is open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week.

Immediately across from 8 Block is the Vitascope Hall which is more of a sports bar and restaurant and open for lunch and dinner.

Pizza Consegna is the local pizza delivery service which is available 7 days a week until midnight.

Also on the second floor is Starbucks Coffee which offers coffee and breakfast pastries.

Another breakfast option is the Hyatt House which is next door. They offer a free breakfast for Hyatt House guests but Hyatt Regency guests can eat there for $15.

There is a walkway to Hyatt House on the second floor.

Meeting Rooms

Just upstairs from the lobby is where you will find the meeting and ballrooms.

Retail

Also on the second floor is the retail store where you can purchase snacks, souvenirs and anything you may have left at home.

Other Features

The Hyatt does have a business center and ATM on the first floor just beyond the escalator.

There is a Fed Ex office on the second floor if you need to ship something or make copies.
