New Orleans Barhop: Irish Channel, Garden District, & Bourbon Street
A few years ago I had a New Orleans Barhop that was mostly focused on historic bars in the downtown and French Quarter areas. I also covered a lot of bars in New Orleans: Frenchman Street. This is a totally unplanned barhop that starts in the Irish Channel for beer and crawfish, heads to the Garden District for sunset, and ends with some late night shenanigans on Bourbon Street.
When we left off last time in the New Orleans: Garden District, I was eating crawfish at Tracey’s Irish Pub on Magazine Street.
After that I took a stroll through the Irish Channel neighborhood on my way to NOLA Brewery.
They have some good looking pizzas coming out of there. They’re also cooking crawfish outside.

From the second floor you can see the Barrel Room where they have live entertainment.
This is the second floor bar which leads to a balcony.
I left a little early because I saw a new brewery a block away on my way to NOLA. I would like to try a beer there then make it to a rooftop bar for sunset.
This is the outdoor portion. The tent to the left is a popup restaurant.
This is the menu for the popup restaurant. I’m still full from the crawfish.
This is the inside portion of the brewery. Notice they have a Nintendo 64 hooked up to that TV with 15 games to choose from.
This is the beer selection.
I went with double trouble.
It’s a mile to the Pontchartrain Hotel, which is where the rooftop bar is, so I ordered a Lyft. It was only a three minute wait and she had a dropoff at the brewery so it worked out for everyone.
The Hot Tin bar is on the 14th floor of the Pontchartrain Hotel. I’m drinking Reve from Parish Brewing.
There are a lot of rooftop bars in New Orleans. I think this is my favorite.
As nightfall came I decided to check out the action on Bourbon Street.
I had to stop for the Kinfolk Brass Band.
My first stop here was at Fat Catz to see what kind of live music they have tonight.
I found these sling shots outside of Fat Catz.
I happened to catch wind that a Carnival piano bar player was on Bourbon street tonight. It happens to be at Spirits which was created by Jon Taffer on one of my favorite shows, Bar Rescue.
The Resurrection.
Patrick Duffy at Spirits on Bourbon Street.
Speaking of Spirits I decided to stop by St. Louis cemetery to see if I could get a look at Nicholas Cage’s pyramid tomb. The cemetery was locked up but I was able to get a shot of it over the wall.
You can’t have a night on Bourbon Street without a hurricane from Pat O’Brien’s.
Let’s end the night at the oldest building in the country currently used as a bar, Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop.
I need to get to bed. Tomorrow, I mean today, is embarkation day.
