Jewel: Seward Day 2
Good morning! I have the early tour this morning so I had my alarm set for 5:30. I woke up at 4:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep so I got up at 5. I made sure I rehydrated then I made a couple cups of coffee.
I have some time before my ride so I walked down to the water.
If you plan to hike Mount Marathon, do it in the morning. Look how clear it is compared to yesterday when I got here.
Right behind the hotel is the Iditarod Mile 0.
I’m hoping to see all of these today.
That’s where I ate last night. It was really good. I recommend it.
I checked out of the hotel and I’m on my way to the tour. If you book a tour definitely call the tour company to see if you can setup transportation. The hotel front desk agent was really great about setting this ride up for me, but I’m getting an ear full from the driver about how they don’t normally do this.
I was dropped off and I’m checking in for my tour. For full coverage of the tour, please check out Major Marine Tours in Seward.
They are going to take my suitcase to the ship for me. It doesn’t seem like something they do often because the check-in girl had to ask three people before she found someone who knew about it.
I decided just to take my backpack on the boat with me. That way I don’t have to worry about anything when I get back. I can go straight to the ship.
My tour boards in 45 minutes so I’m just hanging out here for now.
I guess this is the proper waiting area. I found it on my way to the bathroom. my tour is supposed to board in 10 minutes.
The couch was definitely more comfortable so I don’t regret sitting in there instead of here.
This is my boat.
This is the bigger boat that does the shorter tour.
We are boarding. I’m going to skip ahead to after the tour. For full coverage please check out Major Marine Kenai Fjords NW Tour. I’m going to skip ahead to after the tour.
We are back from the tour. It was excellent. I highly recommend it.
I’m about to make my way over to the ship.
I like how they repurposed some of these old train cars.
It looks like I could’ve waited around at the Hotel 360 and caught the free shuttle to the port.
That walk was a lot longer than what it looked like. Definitely take the free shuttle if you have an opportunity.
That’s it for today. Next time we’re going to cover embarkation.
