Jewel: Day 2
Good morning! When I fell asleep “Shark Tank” was on. I woke up at some point during the night and flipped to the comedy movie channel. When I woke up this morning Father of the Bride 2 was on.
I forgot to mention yesterday I requested and received a coffee setup for my room.
I brought these but they also gave me Columbian coffee with the setup.
I took a walk around the exterior decks of the ship. The weather is fantastic.
I was able to catch the card room and library before the people got there.
Breakfast didn’t open until 7:30. I was five minutes early. I just looked at their menu until they opened.
I picked Norwegian as my favorite breakfast. Princess was unbelievably bad. Carnival is in between.
I picked up a screwdriver at the lido bar when I was up there.
Egg and Avocado Wrap
Cinnamon Raisin French Toast
Norwegian also got my favorite coffee shop.
The Jewel baristas got my best coffee crew for last year. There was never a line and they always knew my order.
I picked up a pair of bloody marys at O’Sheehans.
The big screen in the atrium is running through a slide show of information about ten different glaciers. I will go through the ones I have been to.
Mendenhall Glacier I did on my own in from Juneau in 2022. You can read about that at Mendenhall Glacier.
Sawyer glacier I got to see up close in my Tracy Arm Fjord & Glacier Explorer in 2022. We also got a good look at it in 2023 when we had bad weather at Hubbard Glacier and they gave us Tracy Arm Fjord as a makeup.
Matanuska Glacier and Exit Glacier are two glaciers you can walk on. Exit Glacier can be done from Seward. Matanuska Glacier I did from Anchorage. You can read about that one at Matanuska Glacier Hike.
Hubbard Glacier is where we’re heading now. I did the Hubbard Glacier Explorer tour in 2023.
Screwdrivers from O’Sheehans.
At 9 am they finally have a coffee line. I’m going to take another walk outside. For that I’m going to go downstairs by the coffee shop and outside. That’s deck 7.
This goes all the way around the ship.
This spot with the windows at the front of the ship would be a great spot on a windy day.
There are also plenty of places to put your beverages.
This video is worth watching. It has a lot of information about Alaska. It’s technically the excursion selling presentation, but there isn’t too much of that. She did mention both of my bear tours saw bears last week so I’m hopeful. I know I picked the right time of year for it.
This slide shows our port schedule.
If you’re looking for a cruise with very calm waters, Alaska is a good choice.
I’m up on lido deck at The Great Outdoors trying some of the drinks of the day.
This is the BananaRuma.
This is Cool Cucumber.
I got these Heinekens to take to lunch. I thought they were going to be glass bottles because I saw some in the fridge. It turns out those were the nonalcoholic Heinekens.
I was able to get a glass in the dining room.
I’m trying to order some different items. I know I had the Cottage Pie last year. It was good. I’m trying the Risotto today. I also got a Cobb salad and corn hush puppies. For dessert I asked for a server recommendation. It was the mousse
The Veteran’s event is in the Spinnaker Lounge at 12:30. This is a larger, more private area than last year. Last year it was in the Bliss Lounge which is wide open space everyone just walks by.
They brought around small bites. It looked like spoons of something with crab meat. I passed since I just ate lunch.
They have a glass wall so you can’t walk in front of that Spinnaker Lounge. It’s their nice indoor viewing area on this ship so they keep it where the views can’t be blocked.
I’m back in the Spinnaker for the future cruise presentation.
This drink is called Monkey Business. It’s pretty good.
The guy was telling a bunch of Philippines jokes on this Asian cruise slide and I was the only one laughing so I’m guessing these are mostly new cruisers.
He was saying things like NCL has been avoiding going there because then who is going to work on the ship? And there was 100 million people there but now there’s only 50 because the rest are on the ship.
This is the Croissant Mai Tai.
They are all set up for the glacier.
We are about to approach Hubbard Glacier. For full coverage of that please visit Jewel: Hubbard Glacier. I am going to skip ahead to after that.
The glacier boat is pulling away and we’re about to leave the Hubbard Glacier area.
I grabbed a dirty martini from The Great Outdoors bar.
I’m walking around the exterior area of deck 7 now.
I didn’t like the MDR menu so I decided to walk up at Le Bistro. I have one free specialty dinner to use this cruise.
I had no problem getting a table right away as a walk up.
It’s definitely less food than Cagney’s. You get one soup, salad OR appetizer, a main and a dessert. I got the escargot, the filet, and the first dessert.
The show tonight was a rock show. It was very similar to a Carnival Playlist show. It incorporated live music from one of the bands.
They have a solo guitarist in the atrium.
I stepped outside to check out the sunset.
Internet hasn’t worked for me all day. I let Guest Services know about it. Since we are in Alaskan ports most of the cruise I really just needed the internet for two days and today was one of them. I told them I’d be fine canceling it, using my AT&T until the last sea day, then using my 150 free minutes on the sea day. We’ll see what happens.
Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is on in the atrium.
I was flipping through the TV stations before bed and found some new movies from the spring on the movie channels. Dune: Part Two and Wonka
Tomorrow we’re in Icy Strait Point. Good night!
