Jewel: Day 1
I just boarded Norwegian Jewel in Seward, Alaska. I boarded pretty late so my room was ready immediately. It’s just an interior room but let’s take a look around.
I love the open shelving. I use these for most of my clothes. On Princess the entire closet was open. That was great.
I like the glass shower door.
Another thing that impresses me is the number of USB ports they have on such an old ship. Two by the bed.
And two under the TV.
All of my excursion tickets have been delivered.
This is my first Norwegian cruise since signing up for their military program.
This is a challenge coin. For those who aren’t familiar with them, each unit has one and you’re expected to have it in your pocket. The challenge is whether or not you have it in your pocket and that usually happens at a bar. A couple of times I was given one from a unit I wasn’t in and that was considered an honor.
I’m guessing I’ll get one of these pins and patches for every ship I cruise on.
After checking in at the room I headed down to my muster station which is by the Stardust theater.
They have trivia going on already.
Chin Chin is an included restaurant. I didn’t make it there last time. I’ll try to get there this time.
They have a piano man down below.
I stepped outside. We are in port with Viking Orion.
This is O’Sheehans and the atrium. This is the area I try to get my room close to. I get most of my drinks at O’Sheehans in Alaska. If we were in a tropical climate I’d probably try to be closer to the pool deck.
One of the big downsides to Norwegian is Sport24 is the only sports channel. Most of the time it doesn’t have American sports on.
I got a dirty martini. I did not get the drink package upgrade this time because I found I didn’t really use much from it last time. Tito’s comes with the basic package. Grey Goose is on the upgraded package. I’m specifying Tito’s in my drink orders.
Last year they had Corona in bottles. Those are so much better than the cans. Now they only have cans. I may have to figure out which beers they have in bottles and switch.
This is my favorite cruise ship dining room. It has a fancy feel and they always seat a solo in a two top by the window with no neighbors.
Greek Salad
Cheese Ravioli
This is Shrimp Alfredo. I actually ordered Shrimp Scampi but I let it go.
Creme Brulee
I think this is the manger. He’s going around talking to everyone. He stopped by my table before that one.
A pair of screwdrivers. These biodegradable straws are the best plastic straw alternative I’ve seen on a cruise ship. Carnival does the candy straws and Princess does the paper straws. I’m not a fan of either.
Viking Orion again.
Here’s a look at the lido deck.
That point on the far left is close to where my hotel was. That’s where I took pictures last night and this morning.
Mount Marathon where they have a race to the top every year.
And we are sailing away.
Bear glacier
After sail away I stepped down below for drinks. Karaoke is going on.
These two Tito’s shots are part of a plan I have for morning drinks in my room without having to go up to deck 12.
Late night snack at O’Sheehans.
I’m ready for bed. Before I left O’Sheehans I grabbed two Orange Juices for the morning.
The bottle on the right contains those two Tito’s shots I got earlier. In the morning I’ll have two screwdrivers.
A “Shark Tank” is on the “Favorite TV Shows” channel. Good night!
