Icy Strait Point: Mountaintop Forest Tram
I booked this tour through NCL. They had $50 off excursions on their Free At Sea deal I booked under. That would’ve allowed me to get a ticket on the Sky Glider for free. For an additional $29 I was able to book this tour that included a tram at the top of the mountain. If your ship is docked in the main area of Icy Strait Point, you’ll first have to take the free transporter to the back portion of the property.
On the other side you want to find the Departure Den.
Once inside you need to get into the Sky Glider line.
This is where you can exchange your excursion ticket for a tram ticket and sky glider wristband.
The transporter they packed us in. Eight people in each one. On the Sky Glider they let you have your own gondola.
It was slightly more terrifying than I thought it would be. It made a lot of stops. And while stopped the thing would swing some.
Once on top you can get in line for the Forrest Tram.
This is the Forest Tram. Notice how they have it roped off where you can’t get out this side. I ended up next to a couple that didn’t want to get off at the stops so they would let me out. If you want to avoid that situation I would sit on the open side.
The fiddlehead fern is a cross between brussels sprouts and asparagus. They eat it fried and they use it in stews.

The population of Hoonah is 850. There are more brown bear on this island than there are people. The coastal brown bear grows to 8-12 feet tall, weighs 800-1200 pounds, and can run 40 miles per hour.
Devil’s club plant used to make devil’s club ointment. It’s for sale in the retail shops here.

This is a muskeg. They could be ponds or sinkholes up to 60 feet deep.
Rabbit lake was the first source of water for the people of Hoonah. Now it comes from a waterfall 9 miles from town.
10-15 moose are found on the island each year. They have to swim 8 miles from the mainland.
We stopped at a view point.
Then we headed back to the lake and stopped there.
There are several theories on the stacked rocks by the lake. The first is that if you stacked a certain number of rocks it would bring you good luck. The second is it was done to honor dead loved ones. The third is it was done by aliens.
This road is how people got to the zip line before the Sky Glider was built. It was a 45 minute bus ride up.
That concluded the tour. I personally didn’t think this portion of the tour was that great. There wasn’t much to it. My recommendation would be to do the Sky Glider if you want to come up to the top of the mountain but I would skip the Forrest Tram.
