I Have a Dream: Travel Day

Overview

This is a 7-night, solo cruise on the Carnival Dream out of New Orleans on August 26th 2018. This is my eighth Carnival cruise—sixth out of New Orleans. This is my first time on the Dream but I was on the Breeze earlier in the year so I know what to expect as far as ship layout. We cruised to Key West, Nassau, and Freeport. This is my first time to go to any of those ports.

This is my new travel companion, Harry Porter. Since I’m not a big selfie person he will take my place in some of the photo ops along the way.

Harry loves New Orleans because it’s home to his favorite dessert—Bananas Foster! Down there you can get Bananas Foster French Toast, Bananas Foster Cheesecake, Bananas Foster Bananas Foster.

On the road to Baton Rouge

Probably the nicest rest stop in Louisiana.

As long as you stay away from the alligators that is.

We’ve moved from interstate to highway and now we’re coming up on the worst rest stop in Louisiana. It used to be a couple picnic tables and a port-o-potty. Now it looks like they’ve removed the port-o-potty. I guess you use the trees now.

Pepperjack Boudin Balls!

Baton Rouge

The Louisiana State Capitol always looks happy to see me.

Lunch

This is a place where we can grab a taste of New Orleans in Baton Rouge. This is an establishment from the Garden District in New Orleans that opened a location in Baton Rouge two years ago.

Cheeseburger slider, Jalapeno cheese fries, and a blueberry soda.

They have ridiculous donuts at District Donuts. The flavors change every day. Their twitter account always has a picture showing what they have that day.

On my way to the hotel I almost hit a fat leprechaun wearing a cape. I thought…”nobody is going to believe that”…so after I parked I went on foot to get a shot of him. And it’s not St. Patrick’s Day. It’s August.

Hotel

I’m staying at a La Quinta by the Mall of Louisiana. Nothing fancy. But the location is outstanding with all of the food and shopping right here. Room is clean and the bed is super comfortable. Wifi and breakfast included. It’s a straight shot to the port in the morning–about an hour drive. I think I got this room for $62 after tax on Hotwire.com.
