I Have a Dream: Freeport

on
April 10, 2019

Good morning from Freeport!

We are in port with the Carnival Liberty, Carnival Paradise, and the Grand Celebration (formerly Carnival Celebration).

It looks like there’s just tons of fun waiting to be had here!

I’m not too excited about this port. It doesn’t seem like there’s much to do. I think a lot of people are going to some resort. St Lucyan or grand lucyan…some kind of Lucyan. But that’s not my thing. There’s a brewery with a tour a tasting. I’ll probably check that out. I’d prefer two days in Nassau or Key West but they didn’t consult me on the itinerary. I think this is going to be a leave the ship late, return to the ship early kind of day.

Breakfast

A quick breakfast before heading ashore.

The buffet is slammed. It doesn’t seem like too many people are excited about getting off the ship.

I had three run ins with kids on my way to the omelet station. One in the elevator lobby area thought it would be cool to get in front of me. I try to walk around him he gets in front of me again…that kind of thing. Another on the main walkway in the buffet got in front of me and just stopped. Then a girl just basically walks right into me.

This is why I try to sail when there are less kids on board. I was a little nervous about the last week of August. I usually cruise in September. But it’s about the same as September…not too many. Haven’t really noticed them much until this morning.

Here is the schedule for today.

“Open window” is another way of saying “no AC”

I wanted to go to the brewery so I found the cab stand. All they had were vans and nobody was wanting to go to the brewery. They had a sign with the various locations and prices but I forgot to take a pic. The prices ranged from $4-9 per person. For the brewery they charged me $11.

The Bahamian Brewery

While I was waiting for the tour I took some pictures to try to get various liquor prices in case anyone is curious.

After the beer tour you go to the tasting room where you can sample six beers. Then after that they just give you more of whatever beers you want…for like 45 mins. The tour/tasting costed $10. I thought I had heard $30. Maybe that was with transportation. I drank a lot more than $10 worth of beer I’m sure. The beer tour girl had just done a group tour where one of the people didn’t drink..so she drank for them…so that made for an interesting tour for me.

After the tasting I found a cab driver buying liquor and thought “what could go wrong?” We’re kind of in the middle of nowhere and there aren’t any other cab drivers around so I caught a ride with him. While I was down there a couple had some receipts where they had bought tours online. I think they said carnival connections. The brewery people said they didn’t have any affiliation with that so those people lost their money on that deal.

The beer girl told me I should try a conch salad. So when I got back to the port I ordered one at this place.

I didn’t like it. Half of the conch I tried you couldn’t even chew. The stuff I did eat didn’t have much flavor. I took a couple bites and threw most of it out. Just not my cup of tea.

Doing some touch up on the ship paint

I have a tip on the port days that you board and have a long line for the elevator. If you can make it up a flight or two of stairs to where the glass elevators are, they don’t go down to deck 0.

Lunch

I decided to have a real lunch at Pasta Bella which is open until 2:30 on sea days but 3:30 on port days. It’s starting to catch on. That side I sit on that’s been empty every day had 5 tables in use when I got there.

Red Frog Rum Bar

Beachcomber no straw

Mango Magic with a straw

Carnival Liberty pulling out.

Caribbean Colada

Sail Away

Garbage entertainment tonight. I don’t know why they have the comedians and dancers off the same night. Have the comedians off a night when the dancers have a big show and give the dancers off a night when the comedians have a full slate of shows. Let them have comedy in the main lounge that night.

Dinner

Spring rolls

Salmon

S’mores parfait and bitter n blanc

Main Theater

The beverage servers in the upper level of the main lounge are terrible. They just come out on deck 4 and walk that main aisle. If you’re in the front row down there you get all the drinks you want. If you’re in the back of deck 5 you won’t see them. It was the same on breeze. What am I supposed to do? Scream at them like the peanut guy at a baseball game?

Alchemy Bar

I asked for something spicy spicy and this is that. I saw her get a pepper out of a patron bottle in it and vodka. But yeah it burns your throat. I get extra spicy bloody Marys and this is spicier than any of those.

A little something to soothe that.

They cut quest short tonight because a lady injured her knee or ankle or something.

There’s a grown man at the other end of the bar playing with the light up menus

I hit the bathroom and these two guys are standing behind the door holding a conversation apparently. Guy gets hit in the face with the door and says “aw I’m sorry man.” I’m like you got hit in the face not me.

Pizza

I’m keeping the pressure on these pizza people. Special order even if it means I have to have lots and lots of cheese on my pepperoni pizza. I won’t even be able to see the sauce because it’s going to be covered in cheese. But that’s the sacrifice I make for this review.

I’m not a fan of this pizza del capitano name though. I like pizza pirate so I can walk up and say “arrr matey…I’ll have me pizza with extra cheese or you’ll walk me plank!”
