Hotel Edgewater in Seward

on
October 24, 2024

I found Hotel Edgewater to be a nice option in Seward particularly if you’re looking to enjoy downtown. I ate at The Cookery which was right across the street. The Main Street was one street over. The Alaska Sea Life Center was basically across the street. The location was perfect for all of that.

It’s a bit of a hike to the cruise port but they do have a shuttle that offers transportation to and from the cruise port and train depot.

The room I booked does not have a window.  I could’ve gotten one for about $20 more but I wasn’t in the room long enough to miss it. I was only there to sleep and I checked out early in the morning. I paid $260 for my room. That came to $290 after tax. Hotel 360 was going to be $500 and Hotel Seward was going to be $300 with a shared bathroom or $400 for a private bathroom.

Here you can see the shuttle that will pick you up and drop you off.

It’s a $19 breakfast here.

There’s a sitting area in the lobby and a TV. This table has power connections for your devices.

There is an area where you can purchase snacks behind the front desk.

There is a computer in the lobby area. I did not see a printer.

I think they gave me an accessible room based on the shower. But I was able to check in immediately which was good. I’m actually here 4 hours before check-in and expected to have to store my luggage behind the front desk.

The hair dryer and tissues were hidden in the shelf above the microwave.

Power and USB-A/USB-C on both lamps by the bed.

The have a coffee machine and local coffee.

They have a portable air conditioning unit in the room. It was comfortable for me and I like it cool.

The closet has the iron and ironing board.

I’m not sure what that is but it let quite a bit of light in at night.

This far from the hotel you have some amazing views.

Mile 0 of the Iditarod is also behind the hotel.

You could probably get a good view from one of these balconies if you wanted to pay a little extra.

There’s a Baptist church across the street. Behind that is a parking lot with food trucks.

This first one looks like a place to go for breakfast and coffee if you don’t want to shell out $19 at the hotel.

Across the street from that is Seasalt where I ate lunch.

Directly across the street from the hotel is Cookery where I ate dinner.

If you stay at Edgewater definitely call ahead to setup your transportation. I forgot to do that and walked to the hotel the first day.

If you’re doing a tour, check with the tour company about transportation. I found out Major Marine provides transportation from the Edgewater but I hadn’t called them.

The Edgewater front desk was extremely accommodating by setting this ride up for me. But the driver made sure to let me know they don’t normally give rides to Major Marine.

I am a big fan of this hotel. It was extremely close to all of the major points downtown. The only thing that was a hike would be the cruise port, water excursions, and train station but you can get free rides to and from all of those locations either from the hotel or the tour operator. Just make sure you have all of that coordinated ahead of time.

I highly recommend the Hotel Edgewater in Seward.
