Horizon ABC: Bonaire
Good morning! We are in Bonaire today. I have another rental car with Hertz. I got up to use the bathroom at 2am and the water wasn’t working.
Now I see chatter on social media that they were working on a broken pipe and guest services was telling people there would be no water until 4am. We’re good now though.
Here is a look at Bonaire.
Here are today’s Fun Times.
Good luck with that. We know people don’t read big signs much less small ones.
I’ll take option B.
It was less than a 10 minute wait for my breakfast table.
One of my favorite port day breakfasts is the broken egg sandwich.
In the atrium people were trying to get water bottles filled and the bartender said he can’t. I guess there’s still a problem with the water line.
It looks like they’re going to fix that screen.
This is my route to the car rental place.
It looks like you can swim right in front of the ship.
This is where my Hertz is supposed to be.
There it is.
The rental was less smooth. Two people were in front of me waiting. Two people were behind me. They didn’t have the car the people in front of me reserved so they had to take a different one. Fortunately they had mine. It just took 20 minutes to get it.
They were recommending everyone buy gas because today is a holiday and the stations may be closed. I’m glad I did it because I only remember seeing one station.
I paid $24 for half a tank. That means I took it full and I could bring it back with a half left. I only used a quarter or less yesterday and it cost me $11 to fill it up. That sounded good to me to avoid the hassle of finding a gas station. I took the 75% insurance which still covers 100% of the car. My total was $102 with gas. In Aruba my total was $97 and I spent $11 filling up.
I know the people in front of me had a bigger car and paid $38 for half a tank of gas.
For full coverage of my trip around Bonaire, please visit Bonaire By Car. I’m going to skip ahead to when I got back.
I’m definitely happy I had cars here and in Aruba so I could lock things up and have air conditioning vs. those slow golf carts for the same price.
The car has been returned and I’m going out on foot.
This is Oranje Fortress. It was built in 1796. The original English cannons and petite lighthouse are visible after the 1999 restoration.
It’s been a long day so I’m heading back to the ship.
I wasn’t the only one who got back early. The bars are packed at 5pm.
I headed up to the Tides for drinks.
I’m going to just hang here for the sunset.
After sunset I went to the sports bar to see if the Mets game was on. Its not.
It looks like they’ll have the Stars game, college softball, a college football replay and maybe something else.
We dine!
Compliments of the chef
This is the duck appetizer. Those seaweed crackers are pretty good as well. This is a very filling appetizer. The last time I got the duck I couldn’t eat my entire meal and the server thought something was wrong with it. That’s why I waited for a day like today when I haven’t eaten since breakfast to order it.
Spring rolls
Shrimp fried rice
Peppered steak
After dinner I was able to get a seat at the Alchemy.
I just remembered I need to get my shore excursion figured out for tomorrow. They changed the time of my tour so now it conflicts with my walking tour. The Shore Excursions desk was closed. Guest services said I needed my ticket. I went up to the room and got it along with my change notice. They’re submitting a request for refund and I have to check with shore excursions in the morning.
Amor Cubano is the main show tonight.
Sail Away
The Mega deck party is happening on lido.
This is my neighbors door.
This is my door.
I’m off to bed. Tomorrow we’re in Curacao. Good night!
