Halloween Panorama: Mazatlan
Good morning! We’re in Mazatlan today. I don’t really have a plan. The last time I was here I walked to the top of El Faro. It’s an amazing view from up there. Then after walking back I hired a driver to take me to the Cathedral and to see the cliff divers. You can read about all of that on Mazatlan: El Faro and Panorama: Mazatlan.
The only other thing I really wanted to do at this stop was tour the Pacifico Brewery but it doesn’t seem like they are giving tours right now. I may just go somewhere and eat lunch then come back to the ship to enjoy my Cheers! package.
We have not yet arrived in Mazatlan. It looks like we have some time. I’m going to go get coffee and then check our progress.
Here is today’s schedule of events.
the Java Blue line is shorter today. The Ocean Plaza has two crew members and two guests in line.
I stepped outside with my coffee to watch the sun rise.
I left the snoozing sign off of my door this morning in anticipation of the arrival of the laundry I sent out last night.
Well… you can see El Faro is still fairly faro. But I don’t think I have enough time to eat. Maybe I’ll wait until after arrival for breakfast.
I’m back for another mocha.
It’s kind of funny because this area used to be a check-in desk for Your Time Dining. Now it’s just another seating area at the Java Blue. It always looks strange when people are sitting there drinking coffee.
I moved back to the front of the ship for arrival.
You can see the cathedral straight ahead.
Here you can see the Pacifico Brewery.
I am heading down to the dining room for port day breakfast.
First I’m going to stop for a bloody mary at the Ocean Plaza bar.
It’s not a long wait at all. I requested the table while I was at the Ocean Plaza bar and by the time I walked down the steps my table was ready.
I got French toast with a side of hash browns and bacon.
After breakfast I stopped by the room and found that my laundry had arrived.
I got another bloody mary at the Tides bar on lido deck.
I am getting off of the ship with no real plan. I may just go eat lunch and come back.
You can use this QR to download a Mazatlan map.
They have shuttles to take you from the ship to the port area.
The shuttle ride was under two minutes.
When you get off of the shuttle this device takes your temperature before you enter the building.
When you get inside the building there are shops and restrooms.
When you come out the other side of the building they have a bar, a restaurant, and more shops.
Just past the restaurant is where you can catch a taxi cab. Here are the rates.
There was an announcement that we would need to bring proof of vaccination with us but nobody asked for it.
I took a cab to the El Cid hotel to eat lunch. I had the driver stop along the way to grab a picture of the ocean. Having spent time in Cancun, Cozumel, Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum this spring/summer, I’m amazed that there is no seaweed on this beach. I wonder if there is just less seaweed in the Pacific ocean or if it’s seasonal.
Apparently I forgot to charge my phone last night and I killed most of it with my arrival video this morning. I got down to 1% and needed to conserve it for a potential emergency. The El Cid restaurant looked great. It had a great view of the ocean. But they were between breakfast and lunch. I arrived at 11:30 and they said they wouldn’t serve lunch until 12:30.
I decided not to wait. The cab driver took me to another restaurant that he suggested. I ate fish tacos and started to feel sick to my stomach by the time I got back to the ship.
I opted not to eat dinner in a restaurant. I just picked up a Plain Jane from Guy’s Burgers to take back to the room.
I was in the room the rest of the afternoon and early evening watching this channel 19 which has a few travel shows I like. It shows them commercial free 24/7.
One of these was definitely nonsense. He had a one day Carnival Breeze stop in Cozumel and he did four excursions in Playa Del Carmen which is a 10 minute taxi ride and 45 minute water shuttle ride from the Puerta Maya.
One of the excursions he did was Tulum Mayan Ruins which is really about an hour from Playa and a full day excursion from Cozumel on its own.
He went snorkeling, did a salsa class, a bee hive excursion and he still had time to sit on the beach and write in his journal before catching the water shuttle back to Cozumel. I get this is made for TV but if you’re encouraging people to travel to these places, lets be realistic about what they can do in a one day port stop in Cozumel.
My stomach started to feel better. I wanted to get out of the room for a little bit and let me steward do his thing. While I was in the shower he slid this under my door.
On my way down the hall I ran into my steward. I was carrying my burger plate up to the buffet area because I don’t like to leave it for the steward or leave it in the hall. My steward took it from me and told me to just relax.
I went down to deck 4. They had the 2 for 1 shirt sale listed at 6pm. It was 6:20 but no sale. I thought maybe it was a 15 minute sale. Later someone told me it was hidden in the back of one of the stores. Usually those sales happen out in the open. I reviewed my pictures from my last Panorama cruise and sure enough, they had the shirt sale in one of the stores back then as well.
I thought about maybe trying a beer. The Caribbean Wheat sounds good right now. I went down to the Hero’s Lounge where the World Series and the Pelicans game are both on. Nikola was able to scrounge up a can of Caribbean Wheat and pour it into a glass to give me the illusion of a draft beer.
That was good. We’ll do another. Then maybe look at the comedy show.
Lowell Sanders is the comedian tonight. I haven’t seen him yet. I do know he’s been touring a lot with Tim Allen the past few months
After the comedy show I headed up to the Liquid Lounge to catch some of Rock Revolution.
After the show I headed to comedy. They have live music going on in the atrium right now.
Louis Ramey is the other comedian. He’s another new one to me.
After comedy I headed up to deck 10 to secure a turkey sandwich before the deli closes. The cookies where behind the glass and served by the sandwich technician so I got a couple.
Is this the COVID-19 friendly towel animal? Does it have a mask on?
The noise in my room at night is ridiculous. It sounds like someone is running around up there and every now the dropping a big book on floor. From what I can tell I should be under the bridge. What the heck can they be doing up there?
This is the only thing I can figure. I thought I was far enough away that there wouldn’t be any noise…Mabye I was wrong.
I really think the noise has to mostly be Sky Zone. But it’s after midnight now. It closed at 11:30 and I’m still hearing noise. Maybe they just stop selling slots at 11:30 and they let people stay later.
I’m going to try to get some sleep. Tomorrow we’re in Cabo San Lucas.
