Goldbelt Tram in Juneau

on
January 12, 2024

I was able to get a Gold Belt Tram ticket for free using the $50 off of excursions portion of NCL’s “Free At Sea” promotion. The tram is extremely easy to get to. Most ships dock right out in front of it. In this case NCL was docked farther down but there was a free shuttle that picked up and dropped off right by the tram.

They do have kiosks in front of the tram entrance for anyone who needs to purchase a ticket. Tickets are $50 for adults and $35 for children.

It was only one minute before the tram arrived and three minutes before we were moving.

The tram has a maximum capacity of 60 people. Fortunately there are only going to be five of us today.

The Gold Belt tram takes six minutes to reach the lower terminal on Mount Roberts at a height of 1,800 feet.

Once off of the tram there’s an area where you can take pictures of the ships.

There is a thermometer to give you the temperature which was just under 60 degrees when I was up there.

They have screens with videos about Alaska playing.

They have a snack bar which was closed when I was there.

This is a good look at the tram terminal.

If the snack bar is closed you can also find some snacks in the gift shop.

At the desk to the left you can pick up a copy of the Mount Roberts Trail Guide.

They have plenty of areas for pictures.

The theater has a 20-minute video that runs twice each hour.

There is a restaurant and bar as well.

This is the menu.

This is probably the best view from the restaurant.

They also have outdoor seating.

After touring everything I decided to head back down. I have  a date with some crab legs at Tracy’s.

When you are done you can walk back to your ship or take the shuttle back if you’re on NCL like I was.

I was really happy to be able to get a free tram ticket. I went later in the day because I had another excursion earlier. I was shocked to see how empty it was with about five ships in port. It looks like if you want it to not be crowded, later in the day is a good time to go.

Another advantage of choosing this a Shore Excursion is that you can ride the tram all day!
