Glory Days: 1st Sea Day
Deck 10
Good morning. I got some much needed sleep last night and I’m feeling good today. It’s a good thing I’m not a woman because the water pressure in be shower is non-existent.
All of those plastic bags that were left in one of my drawers are filling up one of my trash cans. I bet my steward is going to be like “man that guy uses a lot of plastic bags.” Speaking of stewards I haven’t met mine yet.
There was no line at the coffee bar at 8:30. With no deck 5 lanai I’m struggling with a new coffee spot. This one is okay but man it’s loud behind me here.
I’ll probably grab a Bloody Mary and check out the morning show at 9:30. Then I’ll check out the brunch situation. When I woke up I think I was still full from the steakhouse.
Here is a look at the Fun Times for today.
Atrium Bar
The Atrium bar either isn’t open or isn’t attended. Interesting note. They have Thirsty Frog Caribbean Wheat on tap here.
The bartender showed up so we’re in good shape. Christina from the Philippines and it’s her real name.
After getting a bloody mary in me it seemed like a good time to play in the elevators. This is a look at the Atrium from the glass elevators.
Deck 10
Back out on deck it looks like a beautiful day.
I’m used to the morning show being live in the theater. That’s not happening here. The playlist cast is rehearsing their getaway island show in there. There isn’t a location listed in the fun times. Perhaps the morning show is only on TV on this ship.
Main Dining Room
I decided to check out the brunch line. There were 15-20 people in line which isn’t bad.
I’m usually a Steak ‘n Eggs brunch guy but I had a big steak last night so I went with Huervos Rancheros.
Deck 4 aft
There are what seems to be relatively unknown bathrooms tucked away on most of the ships I’ve been on. Women on one side. Men on the other side. This is where the crew come for #2 because nobody uses these bathrooms…except me.
These bathrooms are very convenient to the comedy club. They actually have bathrooms outside the comedy club. Of course a line forms when the show lets out. Just walk past the line and go down a flight of stairs…no line.
Ivory Club Lounge
This is the room they are making into the comedy club on Sunrise, Sunshine, Radiance ships which are modified and re-branded from Destiny, Triumph and Victory respectively. I love the bar. I hate the size of the room for comedy. It needs to be bigger.
Cabin
Here is a look at the TV channels in the stateroom. I’ve been leaving mine on channel 19. It has travel shows I enjoy like Ocean Treks, Voyager, and Vacation Creation–all are commercial free.
It looks like my steward visited the room while I was at brunch. I haven’t met them yet.
Red Frog Rum Bar
I am stepping out on lido deck and heading to the Red Frog Rum bar for a frozen concoction.
This is a Caribbean Colada with a sugar straw. Carnival is trying to eliminate single use plastics. One of the things they are doing is trying sugar straws in their frozen drinks. This will be my first ever sugar straw.
The sugar straws are edible. I took a bite of this one. It doesn’t have any taste. It’s pretty thick. Let’s see how it holds up.
After just a few minutes out in this heat the sugar straw started melting and became slimy. If you touch the straw your fingers will get sticky.
This is a look at the sugar straw after 30 minutes.
This is the Mango Magic. No sugar straw at my request.
I’ve been sitting here watching the mixology contest. I have a good view so I’m going to stick around for the lip synch battle auditions.
Well I had a good view. Move it, big red!
It doesn’t seem like big red has any intention of moving anytime soon so I had to abandon bar.
Guys Burger Joint
For lunch I’m having a ringer and fries from Guy’s burgers. The line for a burger was only four deep. The line at the bar is a different story. I brought my own condiments.
Casino
After lunch I stopped by the casino and played some black jack. I wanted to play at the $10 table so I would have a better chance at getting experienced players.
The $10 table was full so I tried my luck at the $6 table. I ended up with a table of good players. I played for a little over an hour–until the alchemy opened. I was up just $8 so I gave that to the dealer and left the table even.
Skybox Sports Bar
Here’s a look at the Skybox Sports bar which is just outside the casino.
Alchemy Bar
I headed over to the Alchemy for some drinks before dinner. Yesterday I broke in the bartenders with some of my favorite drinks that are on the menu. Today I’m going for custom drinks.
Kateryna made me this one. She said it’s dark rum and secret ingredients.
This is really good from Milan. Kind of a chocolate covered raspberry taste.
Raspberry, Pineapple, Chambord, Lime, Secret ingredient, Chocolate bitters, Dark rum
I asked Bruno to make something. He said he had a new idea today.
Here’s what I saw go into that one.
Star African rum, Passion fruit, Lime, More Star African rum (not sure if that was intentional)
Yeah that’s a strong one.
These are the snacks they put out at the alchemy.
Main Dining Room
Baby spinach salad
Lobster, shrimp, risotto (I feel full after the risotto), broccoli, baked potato
Creme brûlée
Cabin
I think I have one of those ninja stewards. I was gone less than an hour. They’ve done my room three times already.
Promenade Deck
After comedy the alchemy was full so I went down to the main lounge and checked out some of the Motown show.
I headed back to the comedy club for the 8pm PG show. I got there right as the comedian took the stage. It was close to full. I still got my seat from last night. It was totally full after the Motown show let out.
After comedy the Alchemy was still full. I went down to the atrium and watched a little bit of the show there. This is the entertainment that would be in ocean plaza on a Dream or Vista class and the entertainment that would be in the atrium on Dream or Vista is crammed on the side of the walkway by the casino.
After a couple songs I wanted a chocolate drink. I decided to give Alchemy one more try and if was full I’d go for the atrium bar.
Alchemy Bar
There was one seat open at the end of alchemy this time. I had Kat make me a deal closer.
The piano player is sick so no piano bar tonight. I don’t ever go there but they just announced it.
Comedy Club
I arrived at the late night comedy less than 10 mins before showtime. The only two person spots I could see open were the couches where your feet get stepped on and rolled over by strollers.
I hit the bar. Another problem with this low bar is there are only a few decent seats. The others you either have a pole blocking your view of the microphone or you’re in danger of someone coming in late and standing in front of you. As seen here.
This is probably the most crowded show yet.
I got a little lucky. I was in the seat where that pole blocks your view of the microphone. The guy in the better seat next to me left while I was distracted typing. A couple comes up and is about to be split by me. I’m more concerned about the guy taking the good seat. I say “oh I’ll move down for you.” The guy is like “you sure man?” “Yeah no problem. You can’t see anything in that seat anyway.”
After the comedy show I went to bed. Tomorrow is another Sea Day.

I have watched your video where you walk FROM the Carnival ship to Hilton Riverside. I have a question, we will walk up the steps, (no problem) thru to the Riverwalk, but here is where I am confused, When you enter ( walking from the ship) there are elevators on the top floor, can you take those down to the level Hilton Riverside is located without going outside? Having never been there it is hard to figure out. I saw where you took the elevator to the outside and walked to the ship from there. I don’t want to walk in traffic. Should we just plan on taking the same walk you did and using the escalator? Thanks for taking time to read this.
Saint Greg
If you are talking about the part I think you’re talking about, taking the steps would allow you to avoid the elevator where I walked on that road. Walking down that road was the way to avoid taking the steps. If you make it up that big flight of steps, it’s all indoors and esclators/elevators all the way to the front desk. I’ll be back in three weeks and can grab a video of that last little bit going to the front desk and anything else you may need.

Thank you very much! I have watched your video’s and can’t say thank you enough for all you have shared about New Orleans and the Carnival Glory. Happy Sailing Gregg!
