Galveston Island Brewing

on
July 6, 2020

Today we are visiting Galveston Island Brewing. I tried some of their beers at local bars which made me decide to stop by for a couple pints and check the place out.

Galveston Island Brewing is situated just a block from Galveston beach. The first thing I noticed is the proximity to Days Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Best Western Plus and Comfort Suites. Being walking distance from the taproom of a local brewery immediately puts those hotels on my Galveston hotel RADAR.

Also walking distance from those hotels is the fishing pier, a movie theater and a miniature golf course.

This is where the magic happens. They offer free tours each Saturday at 1pm. It is not Saturday at 1pm so I’m not going to be getting a tour today. Brewery tours last approximately 30 minutes.

Here is a look at their current taps. They will allow you to sample beers before buying a full beer. They also have beer flights available for purchase.

Here is a look at their beer menu.

The first beer I wanted to try is the Pit Pat which is a Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter. I’ve had this beer in a can and I wanted to try it on draft.

I would definitely recommend sampling this beer before buying a full pint.

The bartenders here say it is popular, but I have heard mixed reviews at other bars. At one outside bar I had one bartender say it’s very popular and another say nobody likes it.

If you don’t like dark beers, you probably won’t like it. I like dark beers. I like chocolate and peanut butter. I love this beer.

Next I wanted to try a beer that would appeal to a wider variety of people. I didn’t want to get a Tiki Wheat which is their flagship beer because I know I can get it at a lot of bars on the beach. I went with the Blue Bridge Hoppy Amber.

While this beer was pretty good, I would recommend the Tiki Wheat over this one. And neither of them will make me forget about the chocolate peanut butter deliciousness of the Pit Pat.

They do have canned 6-packs available for purchase.

Here are a couple examples of their canned beers. This is their flagship beer the Tiki Wheat.

This is my favorite Galveston beer the Pit Pat Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter.

Here’s a look at their food menu. They have sandwiches, chips and pretzels available.

I asked the bartender if she had dinner recommendations for someone staying at one of the nearby hotels. She recommended Jimmy’s on the Pier, a seafood restaurant located on the Galveston fishing pier, and Viet Cajun, which has a combination of seafood and Vietnamese food. Viet Cajun is located across the street from the fishing pier.

Their indoor seating area is currently closed as part of the COVID-19 reopening.

They do have a Touch Tunes jukebox and a TV in their indoor seating area.

I don’t usually take bathroom pictures but I thought the keg urinal was unique.

The coconut and blueberry definitely catch my eye as beers I’d like to try here in the future.

Most of the bar stools have been removed in an effort to promote social distancing.

Outside they have a covered deck and tables with umbrellas. That deck can be converted into a stage for live entertainment.

They do have a playground to keep the kids busy while their parents get sloshed.

I enjoyed my time at Galveston Island Brewing. I will definitely be back in the future. Hopefully next time I can stay at one of the nearby hotels where I can walk over and try more of their beers.
