Galveston Hotel Review: Beachcomber Inn

on
July 13, 2020

When booking this hotel I was looking for an affordable hotel close to the beach that has also offered cruise parking in the past.

When I inquired about cruise parking I was told they do still offer cruise parking free of charge. You just need to let them know when you check-in so they put that on your parking pass. They do not provide a shuttle to the port. A price check during my stay revealed a $9 Lyft and an $11 Uber to the port.

Here is a look at the area. You can see how close it is to the beach. There are a lot of food places in the area. The big building at the bottom is Randall’s grocery store. And that’s a Taco Cabana in the parking lot which is good enough for me.

This is the lobby. Due to COVID-19 they are currently restricting the number of people allowed in the lobby at one time.

You can see they do have face screens installed.

If you’ve been searching for that Beachcomber Inn T-Shirt, they have you covered.

This is the list of rules they give you. It’s their COVID-19 version.

They give you a parking pass to hang on your rear view mirror. If you are going on a cruise just make sure they make that date valid until you get back.

Right next to the lobby is where they would have the free breakfast had they not been under COVID-19 precautions.

They include the wifi password with your room key. It looks like they change that password on odd years.

Here is a look at the room. This is definitely an old school hotel room. This is the kind of hotel I may have stayed in as a kid. In fact I may have stayed in this exact hotel as a kid.

The room was clean and comfortable. The TV has the full DirecTV package. I like that in a hotel room because you typically get more channels and as a former DirecTV customer, I pretty much know all of the channel numbers.

An in-room coffee maker and Seattle’s Best coffee. They only have three hangers so if you plan to do a lot of hanging here, you may want to bring your own.

They have a wall mounted hair dryer and a safe.

Here is a look at the bathroom.

Old school hotel air conditioning.

The pool area is in the front of the hotel just outside of the lobby.

The laundry and ice machines are behind a door that requires a room key.

It’s $1.50 wash/$1.50 dry here.

This is all I could find as far as vending machines go.

This is the Waffle House which is right next door.

Also next door is the Pe King Buffet.

This shows you how close you are to Randall’s Grocery Store.

A look at the nearby fast food places.

Rita’s Frozen Custard is on the corner if you are looking for a dessert place.

In the morning it was just a short walk to see a sunrise like this.

I typically don’t stay at these old style exterior entrance hotels. This one had a different feel. I guess because it’s a beach hotel. I was only in the room to shower and sleep and I felt safe the entire time. There are definitely other hotels I would rather be at but for the price and proximity to the beach, I wouldn’t rule out another stay at the Beachcomber.
