Galveston Beach Bar Hop

on
July 27, 2020

While I was staying at Galveston Beach I decided to do a little bar hop. My preference was places with a great view of the beach. Pretty much none of them are actually on the beach. They’re all across the street so I’m expecting the best bars to be those with a second floor view.

Texas Tail Distillery

Texas Tail Distillery is the first place I came to that I wanted to try. They make their own vodka, whiskey, and moonshine here.

The hours show they should be open and the open sign is lit but nobody is inside. Perhaps they are still in the process of opening.

Beerfoot Brewery

This is another one I wanted to try that doesn’t seem to be open yet. They have over 200 beers here and 32 beers on tap.

The Spot

We finally found one that’s open. The Spot has five venues in one spot.

They’re filtering diners to the left and drinkers to the right.

The first bar you come to is The Squeeze. This bar specializes in tequila and margaritas. I’m going upstairs for a better view.

The first bar upstairs is The Side Yard. They actually have a grass patch table area on the other side of the bar.

I like the three TVs with sports on.

I really like this bar. A lot of sports and a lot of beers. It’s too bad the view is on the other side. It’s time to move on to the next bar.

The Rum Shack specializes in rum, tropical drinks, and beach views.

The bathroom is back by the Side Yard and it’s…different.

Rumors

Rumors is a popular bar that was on my list. But I was going for places with a good beach view and this bar didn’t seem to have it. I later found out they do have a small upstairs balcony area that probably has a better view than the bar itself.

Float

Float is definitely a unique bar that’s a must try. They also have the best happy hour special I found with $3 beers.

Float actually has a pool in the bar.

Make sure you don’t bring any glass bottles out to the pool deck.

They have chairs and umbrellas above the pool deck with great views.

The Poop Deck

The Poop Deck seemed to be the best place to go if you wanted to listen to rock music. It also seemed to be the “biker bar.” The parking area was loaded with motorcycles later in the evening.

This is the downstairs bar.

This is the upstairs bar.

The Poop Deck has some great views upstairs on the balcony.

Fish Tales

Fish Tales is more of a restaurant with a bar. I was attracted to the balcony directly across from the pleasure pier. They did have a bar upstairs but all of their bar stools were removed due to Covid-19 precautions. I was able to get a beer as a walk-up.

Fish Tales has great views of the beach and pier. They also have an ice cream shop downstairs in the restaurant with a walk-up window outside.

Murdochs

Murdochs looks more like a retail store but the key words on the signs are frozen drinks and beer.

And I found the bar. They have Galveston Island Brewing Tiki Wheat on tap but they are out right now. The frozen drinks are green apple, pina colada, margarita, and strawberry. The Bud Light draft was only $2.50.

You aren’t going to get any closer to the water than here.

The Balinese Room

It looks like this used to be the place to be.

A 600-foot pier with alcohol, dancing, a less than legal casino, and entertainment that included Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, and George Burns.

Longboard

Our next stop is at the Longboard which is at the DoubleTree Hotel.

I like these surf boards at the entrance.

Apparently the Longboard broke off at some point so it just says Bar now.

I like the Tiki look and the longboard theme they have here. They also have TVs on each end of the bar with sports on.

I like that they have local beers from Galveston Island Brewing. I enjoyed the bartenders here the most out of all of the places I’ve been. This is probably my favorite beach bar in Galveston. I’ll definitely be pricing the Doubletree on future Galveston trips.

Tea’ze

I remember passing this Tea’ze earlier and wanted to grab a daiquiri.

I went with a pina colada. Their seating area was closed due to Covid-19 precautions but I wanted to get mine to go anyway.

I found a nice spot across the street to enjoy my pina colada.

That was my last stop of the day. My time at the Longboard inspired my trip to Galveston Island Brewing. There are still places I wanted to stop at that I didn’t get to try so maybe there will be another Galveston Bar Hop soon.
