Fairfield Inn & Suites Webster

on
January 31, 2022

Webster is my favorite place to stay before a Galveston cruise. The benefits of staying in Webster include: better hotel prices, plenty of shopping and dining in the area, and if you have a day, you’re really close to Space Center Houston. Then it’s no more than a 30 minute drive to the cruise port on embarkation day.

Booking

I booked a room at the Fairfield Inn & Suites – Webster. The Fairfield is almost brand new. It was actually being built the last time I stayed in Webster which was at the Comfort Suites in 2019. I used google to price-check various travel websites and found booking directly through the hotel was about the same price as booking elsewhere so I booked directly through Fairfield.

Check In

I received an email from the hotel saying since I booked directly through them I would have my room assigned before I arrived and be able to use my phone as a key. That never happened. It said it was “still getting my mobile key ready.”

When I arrived the front desk clerk told me my credit card was invalid. I have other cards I could’ve used, but I use this one for everything. I pay it off weekly. There was nothing wrong with it. I told her to keep trying. On the fourth attempt it went through. She said “I guess it was our machine.”

Room

I wasn’t too concerned about my room location since I was leaving in the morning. I was assigned room 411.

This is a really cool feature. Scan the QR code on the TV and you can use your phone as the TV remote control. It works good.

The desk area had USB ports.

I liked that the remote was wrapped in plastic.

They also had USB ports next to the bed.

This was the view out the window.

I love a hotel bathroom with a large walk-in shower.

Breakfast

Some hotels may not offer their free breakfast anymore or only have grab and go bags due to COVID. This one has the full spread.

Regular or decaf coffee with all of the creams and sugars.

This section has fruit, yogurt, toast, or instant oatmeal.

This is your juice and cereal section.

This section has a few hot options or you can make your own waffles.

I’m not much of a buffet person so I went the safe route.

Pool

They have a fairly small indoor pool open from 6am-11pm.

The pool does have a chair lift if you need it.

Electric Car Charging

Outside of the pool area they do have a couple of connections to charge electric vehicles.

Fitness Center

This fitness center has just about everything you could want except I don’t think it had free weights.

Market

They have a small market area next to the front desk where you can purchase snacks or drinks.

Business Center

They have two computers and a printer at their business center if you need to print anything out. They don’t have any chairs so it doesn’t look like they intend for you to stay here very long.

Check Out

While I wasn’t able to use the app to check in, I was able to use it to check out.

It was just a 25 minute drive from the hotel to my cruise parking lot just a few miles from the port.

Conclusion

I really liked this hotel. It was clean and comfortable. I love the location. Free breakfast and coffee was nice. I liked the remote control on your phone and the app check out. I definitely would stay at this hotel again.

Staying in Webster before a Galveston cruise is better and less expensive. Galveston hotels have gotten too pricey.
