Cozumel: Day 4

on
June 11, 2021

Good Morning! This is my last morning in Cozumel as I will be flying out this afternoon. This has been a short trip and it has gone by too fast.

On the last morning I finally figured out the coffee pot here. You can’t put an entire pot of water in the coffee maker. If you do it will back up. If you fill it just to the top line which is 3 on the pot, it works perfectly.

I probably should watch some news before I head back to the real world so I’m sitting inside where I can see and hear the TV.

There’s some stand up paddle boarding happening. I have seen swimming, snorkeling, row boating, sail boating, and now stand up paddle boarding all right here in front of the hotel this week.

I was running late for my scheduled breakfast this morning and couldn’t find my plain black mask so I wore the one the good people at Coconuts gave me yesterday. I bet the people on the plane would really appreciate it if I wore this on the flight.

We started off with juice, coffee, and fruit.

I went with the french toast today. Now I’ve covered all of the free breakfast options–Omelet, pancakes, and French toast.

My friend with with an omelet.

After the coffee it was bloody mary time.

We have a late afternoon flight so we decided to get some pool time in after breakfast.

We hadn’t tried the hot tub out yet and it was empty so we moved over there.

The hot tub buttons didn’t seem to work and it wasn’t very hot. I would call it slightly warmer than the pool.

You can get a good look at the hotel from here.

They always have a lot of cleaning going on here. They were scrubbing these steps the whole time we were in the hot tub.

You can see someone cleaning the lobby furniture. There was a gardener watering the plants downstairs at the same time. They are really keeping this place up.

They have this platform out in the ocean that you can swim to and hang out on with chairs and a coffee table.

Unfortunately someone left a can out there and it’s about to roll into the ocean.

Since we’re about to leave it’s probably time for me to read the pool rules.

This is coming back from the hot tub area. These are for guest use.

We call this the towel hut. They usually have towels up on the bar. There’s a bookshelf in the back where you can grab a book to read. My friend is going to leave “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” there before we go home.

They have a basket for you to deposit your wet towels in.

Next to that they have a place for your food and trash.

This is where they have yoga in the mornings.

I never saw anyone in here but they do have nice maps you can grab that were helpful. That map is where I saw the brewery and the rum tasting room I visited the other day.

My friend asked the front desk if we could get late checkout times. They have someone checking into my room today so they need me out at 12 but my friend can stay in his room until 12:30. Our flight is at 3:45. I’m going to check out at noon and head to my friend’s room to hang out for a half hour. Then we’ll head to the airport.

Swinging down to the restaurant would’ve made such a better breakfast entrance than taking the elevator. I believe that large balcony across the way is a part of the spa.

I checked out and moved to my friend’s room. We have 30 minutes to hang out on his balcony before he needs to check out. . We could have lunch here to kill more time before going to the airport but it doesn’t sound like my friend has an…..appetite for that. He wants to eat at the airport. I’m skeptical of the food selection at such a small airport.

I found something in that box from the Cozumel Barhop that I missed on the first day. Very nice!

We checked out of my friend’s room at 12:30. Our room charges were right around $200 each for food, drinks, and tips that we charged at the hotel.

We got into one of the awaiting cabs and headed to the airport.

They must have a flat rate because it was $15 for a ride to the airport. It was only $5 when we went downtown which is farther away than the airport.

We made it to the airport. As you can see there’s a lot of excitement in this room.

We checked in and are in the security line. It’s 1:07pm.

We were making jokes about some of the absurd items in this display case. “Good thing I left my bull whip at home.”

It’s not exactly Cancun, but they have some shopping here as well.

They don’t have many food options. There’s a bar by the gate which may have had some food and this Guacamole place.

It may be small but they have all of the essentials. I got a beer, chips and guac, and quesadillas.

This is my friend’s bag. When we arrived at the hotel the bellman was like “Sir may I take your ruck sack?”

30 minutes until boarding. There’s still time for another beer.

And we’re boarding.

You can’t make this stuff up. We’re in line to board and guess who they pull aside for a “random security search?”

I had to take my hat off, belt off, shoes off. Everything had to come out of my pockets. They had to pull the inserts out of my shoes. I had to sit down so they could inspect my feet.

They had this little tab that they wiped on the inside of every compartment inside my back pack and run it through a machine. Then outside my laptop. Inside my laptop. Everything. Everywhere. It was ridiculous.

Somehow in all of that my Saints pen got broken. Or maybe they took it apart for inspection. They tried to give it back to me in pieces and I told them to just keep it as a souvenir.

They had someone escort me to the plane. Like I can’t figure out how to get there from here. I pointed to an airplane staircase off to the right that went nowhere and asked “Is that where I’m supposed to go?”

“Ohhh the one that goes up to the the big thingy that flies. That’s where I’m supposed to go. Got it.”

So far nobody is next to me. Surely nobody is boarding after me.

There are no TVs on this plane. I may buy internet if they offer it.

We’re going to fly over New Orleans on our way to Houston to avoid bad weather.

The door is closed so I’m safe with nobody in the seat next to me.

I had to send a message to my friend who is a few rows up in a window seat with the middle seat occupied.

I was able to get a good shot of Isla Mujeres. If you remember my Planet Hollyood Cancun trip, that is the Island we could see from the resort.

While they didn’t have any TVs on the plane, they did have where you could watch some movies or TV shows on your personal device using their app for free. I watched a few episodes of Cheers. It seems like I never see reruns of that show anymore. Weird.

They give you a little snack pack in flight. They also did a beverage service but there is no alcohol on this flight.

We landed in Houston. Customs was a mess. We didn’t have any problems there. It was just a huge line. And the empty maze we had to walk through just to get to the end of that line felt like it was 10 times longer than it needed to be. I would hate to be in that line if it’s ever full.

I got ALL of the special treatment on this trip. My bag arrived safe, clean, and disease free.

Our cars are at The Parking Spot on Will Clayton. This looks like the place.

A shuttle pulled up within 10 seconds.

That’s right shuttle people. This is how I pack. This is how I roll. This is how I travel.

And we made it back. Next time we’re going to Barcelo Maya Riviera.
