Christmas Vista: Cozumel
Good morning! So far this is the only time I use this window. In the interior room I would’ve put the ship cam on the TV to see if it was light outside. I’m really only in the room to sleep and shower. You have to keep the forward window curtains closed at night for navigation purposes. I also keep it closed when I’m changing clothes. That leaves the morning when I first wake up as the only time I use it. I do think I’ll use the window more in Alaska.
There is a time change in Mexico during daylight savings.
Here is today’s schedule of events.
Here are a couple of morning shots from the “secret deck.” As you can see I’m just below the bridge.
We have not yet arrived in Cozumel.
It doesn’t seem like the dreamscape has as many fancy Christmas designs as the Panorama one had for Halloween.
The coffee shop had four people in line. The plaza bar had two. I went for regular coffee at the plaza bar.
I went ahead and requested a table for breakfast while I was waiting on my coffee.
It feels like a long wait for breakfast this morning. I’ve been here half an hour. Other tables are commenting there’s nobody here to fill drinks and it’s taking forever. One of the other tables just called a waiter over to see what’s up.
At the table next to me the guy got his breakfast sandwich awhile ago. He’s finished eating and she hasn’t gotten her food yet. They’ve been here an hour. I’ve been here 45 minutes.
A waiter just walked over with 15 plates for everyone in the area. A lady asks if he could swim to Cozumel to get her some jelly.
French toast, bacon, and hash browns. They went skimpy on the bacon. On Panorama they always gave me four pieces.
Another difference between Vista and Panorama is they have this bar in the dining room on Vista. They don’t have it on Panorama. I sat there a couple nights the last time I was on Vista. It doesn’t look like they are allowing that this time. It’s probably a COVID-19 precaution.
I’m stopping by the coffee shop for another regular black coffee.
The cruise director just announced it’s going to be another 20 minutes before people can get off of the ship.
We’re in port with a Royal Caribbean ship. Normally there would be 1 or 2 other Carnival ships here or coming here. Under the circumstances we are the only Carnival ship docking here today.
It looks like they’re starting to let people off of the ship.
I’m heading to the Red Frog Rum bar for a bloody mary.
I had planned on going downtown to the Kusam micro brewery for beer and tacos today. I just pulled up their website to get the street address for my cab driver and I noticed they don’t open until 5pm. That messed up my plan for today.
I think I’m just going to get off of the ship and eat lunch.
I pointed this out on my Glory cruise two years ago but this clock looks like a solid time to the naked eye but behind a camera the numbers light up individually.
It’s good to see these shops open. When I flew here in May this area was a ghost town.
I’m used to there being a lot more people on this sidewalk. I think it’s a product of only having one ship in port and at a reduced capacity.
I just went back to the port area to eat at Pancho’s Backyard.
Here is a look at the menu.
I’m starting with a Pina Colada.
Chicken taquitos.
Quesillo con Codzitos
Corn tortillas
Salsa
This drunk guy is walking around talking to people at tables. He was talking to me until my food came and now he’s at the next table. Clearly they want him to leave but he won’t.
I got all the way back to the ship and boarded when I realized I didn’t get the peanut butter for my Reece’s drink at the alchemy bar.
I went back out in search of peanut butter but I couldn’t find any. Even the 7-11 didn’t have it. What kind of country is this?
When I got back to the ship I showered and changed clothes. I’m starting to run low on socks so I was going to send out some laundry but I don’t have a laundry form in the room.
I’m up on the adults only Serenity deck now. The bars on Mardi Gras and Panorama all have the QR code menus. I’ve noticed some bars on Vista that do not have the QR code menus yet. This is one of them.
I ordered a Caribbean colada
Next I went to the Pina colada.
It’s opening time at the alchemy bar. I made sure I got a seat and one of Raunak’s berry drinks.
They are starting to page people. That usually happens when people didn’t get back on board on time.
Strawberry basil drop.
Raunak rolled out the snack trays.
This is a blackberry drink from Raunak.
Unfortunately for the people cruising after this week, Raunak is going home after this cruise. He’ll be back in March though.
I’m not going to be able to get a Reece’s drink today due to the lack of peanut butter in this country. I can still get a Snickers drink though.
I went back to my room and got my laundry together before dinner. The bags are different. Plain white bags. They feel smaller to me. Normally I wait until Tuesday or Wednesday to send laundry out but this one is packed full on Monday.
There’s a solo guitarist in the atrium. He’s currently playing a slow version of Bon Jovi’s “It’s my Life.”
I’m passing by the sports bar on my way to the dining room. Monday night football is on.
I’m passing by the comedy club still on my way to the dining room. Dana Moon is doing a PG show.
I think this is the same table I had yesterday.
I’m starting out with spring rolls.
Once there was a snail who was tired of being slow. He went out and bought a really fast sports car and had the dealer paint a big ‘S’ on each side of it.
Whenever someone saw him zooming past in his new car, they would say, “Hey, look at that S-car go!”
Stuffed portobello mushrooms. I like the spring rolls and the escargo. This is my first time getting the mushrooms. I’m not a big fan.
Chocolate melting cake paired with melting ice cream.
After dinner I stopped by the sports bar to catch some Monday night football before the ugly sweater contest.
They have the Peyton and Eli version down the way but not the audio. It’s the way I watch Monday night football at home now but there’s no point in having it on without their audio.
I got a seat in the main lounge for the ugly Christmas sweater contest.
And the winnner.
Deal or No Deal is coming up next in the Liquid Lounge.
I made my way down to the comedy club and got a seat with three minutes to spare until the first adult comedy show of the night.
Joe Lindley.
After the show I headed back to the Liquid Lounge to catch some of the Deal or No Deal.
Then I headed to the sports bar for the end of Monday night football.
One of the things that helps with the sports bar being closed in is they do have a tv outside and people are sitting in those seats along the walkway watching it.
After football the Love and Marriage show was happening in the Liquid Lounge.
I went out looking for something to supplement that Portobello mushroom I didn’t really eat much of. I saw Guys Burgers is open 1-10pm today. I didn’t realize it was ever open that late.
I stopped by Guy’s 15 minutes prior to closing but they were in shutdown mode. They weren’t cooking anything. What was sitting around didn’t look appetizing so I continued to the deli.
One guy in line said he waited 20 minutes for a sandwich yesterday and he accidentally dropped it on the floor.
I went with the Reuben. It’s pretty darn good. It’s going to be one of my new favorite sandwiches here.
I stopped by the bar to get a water to take with me on my excursion tomorrow morning. Our meeting time is 7am. There’s a deck party happening on lido deck.
I’m going to put in a room service order for breakfast tomorrow since that’s about the only way I can eat before our 7am meeting time. Peanut butter is an option so I’ll have them bring some of that as well.
I ordered a bagel, cream cheese, cereal, juice, coffee and peanut butter for 6-6:30 tomorrow.
Good night!
