Christmas Breeze: Day 1

I just boarded Carnival Breeze in Galveston and dropped my backpack off in the room. My room isn’t far from the deck 6 “secret deck” which is through that door straight ahead.

These are the Galveston views from the deck 6 “secret deck.”

This is deck 6 so it has the waterproof doors. Deck 7 and above have the normal doors.

Next I headed to my muster station which is in the theater for my room. This was the last Carnival ship built with the nice comfortable couch style seating.

A nice table for your drink and plenty of legroom.

Martin from the playlist cast is showing us how to put a life jacket on.

I think the Guy’s Burger line goes all the way across the deck. Let’s go check it out.

Yep. It goes all the was past Blue Iguana Cantina.

I like the pasta lunch on this class of ship on embarkation day. That’s at the Italian restaurant on deck 11 aft. Most people have already found a place to eat by the time they make their way up to this deck.

I’m just going with the lasagna today.

The lasagna isn’t great. It definitely seems like it’s been sitting around and was just reheated.

Here’s a look at the cakes.

With everyone hanging in the buffet with their luggage, there is no place to sit in there right now. I had to find a spot outside.

I do miss this open area where you can see all the way down on the newer ships.

This is the view from the elevator lobby on my deck. That’s going to be nice.

My first Fun Ship Special of the cruise.

And our rooms are ready! This is a bit smaller than I’m used to but I was going for the cheapest room possible this time. There is a bunk that comes out of the ceiling to accommodate a second person.

The bed is a bit small. I do like how open the room is though. I don’t like the tight hallway most Carnival rooms have between the bathroom and closets.

This fridge is pretty messed up. I don’t think it works at all.

Everything else is as expected.

This seems like a bit of wasted space. I’ll probably end up putting my suitcase there instead of under the bed.

It’s a good thing I have a 10-foot cable.

Here are today’s Fun Times.

Refueling ended at 12:55pm. Smokers can now smoke again.

Now they’ve added “the captain requests” to the announcement asking people to complete their muster drill. I guess they’re thinking people will take that more seriously. I got another Fun Ship Special in the atrium.

I’m guessing they’re setting these up for Monday Night Football but I can’t imagine wanting to sit in those folding chairs and watch a game on that small screen.

I stopped back by the room and my steward has left my suitcase inside the room.

This will be how I make use of that empty space.

Rian is my steward.

We are sailing away.

That’s the USS Cavalla and the USS Stewart. I toured them during the COVID shutdown. You can read about that at USS Cavalla and USS Stewart and Seawolf Park.

A room down the hall has free candy canes.

I decided to go for an early dinner since it’s going to be tough to squeeze it into tonight’s activities. I want to be out by 7pm.

I made it to the 7pm Tree Lighting.

I stopped by the room for my wine. I ran into Rian who said he left my excursion ticket in the box.

Barefoot Pink Moscato

I have an hour until the comedy show so I’m going to watch some Monday Night Football until then. I was able to find one open seat at the Casino Bar.

I’m right by all the walk ups. These intoxicated ladies were just here. They ordered a bucket of Michelob Ultra for the two of them. They asked me what color card a platinum guest would have. I showed them mine. They said some guy was hitting on their mom bragging about being platinum (I don’t know why he’d do that) but he has a blue card.

I went up to the room to top off my glass before PG comedy. It’s handy being on deck 6 for all of this back and forth between 5 and 6.

The club is packed!

I got a box seat.

After comedy I headed back to the room to finish off the wine. I was wondering about this. I’m above the theater. I can hear it quite clear in the room. It won’t matter to me because they’ll be done when I go to bed. But if you’re someone who goes to bed early you probably want to be on deck 7 or higher.
