Chicago
Tonight we are going to the Ambassador Theatre to see Chicago. As you can see on the map below, I just have to walk a few blocks.
This is much smaller than the theatres for The Phantom of the Opera and Wicked. This is the back of the orchestra.
A look up at the balcony.
Here you can get an idea of the front row leg room. It looks really good.
This is what I call my value seat of all the shows I bought tickets for. This was only $79 ($106 after broadway.com fees). It’s significantly less than the front row center seats but it’s still a great view.
The legroom is pretty outstanding for me. The seats and armrests are smaller–Like Phantom. But there’s nobody to the left of me and I have all this legroom so it’s good.
That’s the drink I got. It’s basically a Blueberry Cosmo.
I guess the disappointment is they don’t have a Chicago drink cup. I was hoping to have one for each show, but this is just a generic Broadway cup.
They made me move my drink from here. I don’t know why. They never used that side part of the stage anyway.
This is definitely a smaller show. There are no fancy sets or special effects. I guess it’s old school Broadway. But it is entertaining. Being close is interesting because you notice little interactions between the actors that you might not otherwise.
The one downside is in each show I’ve been close I can see one actor who spits a lot. And I’m horrified anytime they come near me. It’s Mrs. (Mr.) Sunshine in this one and it was the phantom in Phantom of the Opera. But this time there is no orchestra pit between us!
The side view is fine. That chair blocks a little bit of the orchestra but you don’t miss much. It’s a good budget seat at $79….106 after taxes and broadway.com fees…Check Ticketmaster first.
I got a couple of shots after the theatre cleared out.
There’s a bit of a line at Joe’s Pizza.
These are good. I like the cheese better though.
Tonight’s rooftop bar is the Cloud Social.
This is my first time trying this beer. It’s a really good IPA.
I got a second beer and stepped away for two minutes just to use the bathroom. My beer was looking just like this one and they took it. I guess a guy from the bar just thought I abandoned my full beer and left my things at the table. This is one of the problems with being solo. That’s why I make sure it’s a full drink before I leave so they don’t toss it.
At most places when this happens they will just apologize and get you another beer. Here they had to pull the guy out of the bar to verify that he did throw my beer away. His explanation didn’t make sense to me because all of my Broadway stuff was on the table. Thankfully he didn’t throw that away. But they did eventually replace my beer.
The guy at the Halal Guy’s stand is selling Poland Springs waters for $1 just one block away! The hotdog guy outside has been charging me $2-3 depending on his mood. I think I found a new water source.
On my way up to the room a guy was lugging a case of waters on the elevator. I could do that but I don’t want to take the time out to go some place and buy a case of water then lug it up here.
I locked my key in the room and had to go downstairs to get a new one. Of course a lady was checking in at 11:45pm so I had to wait for that. I’m off to bed. Good night!
