Chef’s Table on Carnival Magic
The Chef’s Table is not something I ever planned on doing. I don’t typically enjoy spending a couple of hours at dinner–especially with a bunch of strangers.
Since I had a lot of onboard credit to use, I decided to use some of it on the Chef’s Table on Carnival Magic.
I received my invite on the second day for a Chef’s Table on the third night at 6pm. I also received a phone call in the room confirming it.
I found the Chef’s Table meeting point in the atrium.
After everyone was present several employees including the Lido Chef collected us.
They walked us through the Northern Lights dining room to the galley.
He mentioned we aren’t supposed to take pictures of the galley. After this one it will be mostly just the food.
After the introduction we had to wash our hands.
The table is in the galley on this ship which is kind of cool but it’s also very loud and very hard to hear him. We started off in a standing area across from the table.
He introduced the team that worked on our meal.
This was a mushroom, essence of mushroom, and something else I couldn’t hear. You eat the mushroom. Then pour the small cup into the big cup, stir and drink. It’s good if you like mushrooms.
Beet, lemon, sour cream, and something else I couldn’t hear.
This was my favorite of the appetizers. Blue crab and apple relish.
Next we moved to the table where we met the Executive Chef. We did a group photo with him.
We had a choice of red or white wine and spring or sparkling water. I went with white and spring.
This bread was very good. Like a croissant with parmesan.
We had a regular butter and a smoky honey butter.
Now we get into the menu.
After the duck we took our first break. We went back to the hot area and watched the cooks and servers work for an minute. Then we went to the pastry kitchen for a chocolate melting cake demo.
Others were taking pictures in the pastry area so I did as well.
In case you ever wonder what kind of chocolate they use in the melting cakes, this is it.
On the way back chef showed us an area where they have a picture of the plating of every menu item on the wall.
We returned to the table.
This was another off menu item. It’s spinach and asparagus. The juice is lime and mint.
It looks like I missed taking a pic of surf and turf. There wasn’t much to it. It was like a beef broth onion soup with a small piece of lobster in it.
The smoked portion of the lamb
Our next break brought in a magician.
They asked if we wanted coffee or tea I asked to look at their selection of teas.
I selected Earl Grey Creme.
They gave us the melting cake recipe.
They gave us these for our picture, recipe, menu, and name plates.
I went in not expecting to enjoy this. I don’t typically enjoy long meals with a bunch of strangers. But I did enjoy it. The food was excellent. I would definitely consider doing it again.
