Celebration: Embarkation
Good morning from Little Havana in Miami! If you are looking for something to do in Miami, I definitely recommend spending some time here in Little Havana. I have enjoyed the coffee, the food, the mojitos, and the overall atmosphere here.
I’ve been up for about 45 minutes after about 8 hours of sleep. El Pub should’ve just opened so I’m going to head over for coffee.
This is why I wanted to stay in Little Havana. So I could just walk here in the morning for coffee and pastries.
They have a bunch of flavors of empanadas. They also had the ham croquettes I liked last night.
Say hello to my little friends!
This time I got the coffee with a small amount of milk in it but still the sugar. If you don’t like a strong coffee this will probably be best for you. It’s very good. Not as strong.
I got a beef empanada and a ham croquette.
Here’s a look at Domino Park before opening.
I walked by this place last night. Today I’m going to stop in.
I got a guava pastelito, a meat pastelito, and another coffee with a little milk.
The pastries are good but I thought the coffee at El Pub was better.
There’s a guy just to the right of this shot with a bag of bread he’s throwing to the chickens. I won’t feed bread to birds because I’ve read it’s like junk food for them.
I made it back to “the place.” I’m going to order an Uber/Lyft in about an hour and put my superior riding skills on display.
The good thing about this place is you can’t lock yourself out. You don’t have to make sure you have your room key with you when you leave.
Not bad prices here. I may wait 10 minutes and do the wait and save option. That would put them here around 9:30 which is when I wanted to go anyway.
Oh you know why the prices aren’t bad. They’re applying that $5 credit I earned last night.
This is the Uber side. They never give me credits like Lyft does.
My ride is booked.
The timing was perfect. He pulled up right when I got down to the street. This ride was $5.86. Probably regular 10.86 since I had a $5 credit.
Stay on Biscayne.
A porter was right there to grab my bag.
They have a line for Diamond, Platinum, Suites, and Special Assistance. Then they have lines for On-Time Arrivals and Early/Late Arrivals.
Diamond, Platinum and Suites get to go now. Boarding zones have to wait.
I was excited. The way things were moving I thought we were going to walk right on the ship. I guess this is the priority waiting area.
The first section is Diamond.
The middle area is Platinum.
And suites are by the window. There really isn’t much separation and it’s hard to tell what’s what.
So far I’m pretty happy with the Miami port. The ones with a lot of ships usually are a nightmare with traffic. Fort Lauderdale, Port Canaveral, and Galveston. I don’t know if its because it was before 10am or what but we sailed right through. We parked right by the ship. The porter was right there. It was just a short walk inside. There was no wait for check-in and just a short wait for security.
These announcements are better than Port Canaveral but if he says a really long sentence or multiple sentences the echo starts to run over what he’s saying and it can be hard to understand. At Port Canaveral you couldn’t understand anything. Employees had to hold up fingers to let you know which boarding zone they called.
As more and more people get in here, it’s getting warm. A lot of fans coming out and makeshift fans are being constructed.
I missed the photo op. It’s in front of the Diamond area.
They will board suites first. Then diamond. Then platinum. Then boarding zones.
People are making their own lines.
Suites begin boarding at 10:55am.
Diamond boarding begins at 11:02am.
They should change this layout. Diamond guests shouldn’t have to fight through all of the Platinum people to board.
Platinum begins boarding at 11:10am.
And it’s a mess.
We are boarding at 11:17am. Next time we’ll do Day 1.
