Carnival Sailabration: Costa Maya
Good morning! We are getting ready to dock in Costa Maya. I am going to be touring Kohunlich Mayan Ruins today. This is the excursion that was canceled by Carnival the other day. I re-booked through The Native Choice for $35 cheaper.
We had some excitement this morning. At 12:30am I heard banging on a door down the hall–Like three sets of 10 knocks. Then I heard someone scream “call security.” A slew of loud talking profanity followed. I step out into the hallway. There’s a wet naked guy two doors down. I tell him everyone can hear him. He says “sorry man I’ve been drinking.” I go back into the room.
Right after that security shows up. There’s a loud conversation between the naked guy and security that includes profanity. After that quiets down I hear a lady screaming at security that she has kids in the room.
I think the guy was either at the wrong room or he locked himself out of his room and nobody was in it to let him in. Welcome to my world. Except I generally have clothes on when I lock myself out of the room.
Finally it calmed down and I was able to go back to sleep.
There are two guys out here with me.
One guy says “I don’t know where we’re going to park. Can they get four ships in there?”
I said “we’ll park right next to Mardi Gras. We may back in.”
The other guy says “I think we’re going to stay right here and tender in. The captain is going to have us tender in.”
I said “we aren’t going to tender. We’re going to dock in that empty spot next to Mardi Gras.”
The other guy says “I think we’re going to tender. I’ve been here a few times. We always tender in Belize.”
I said “we’re not in Belize. We’re in Costa Maya.”
The other guy says “oh they changed the schedule.”
And we’re going for the back-in.
I can turn the this into a Mardi Gras tour from here.
This is Havana pool area.
That’s the Havana pool.
Here is today’s Fun Times.
And the weather.
I’m ready to walk out the door this time so I’m going to try to squeeze breakfast in.
I got a broken egg sandwich with a side of hash browns and crispy bacon.
I’m heading through the casino to the front of the ship to get off. I believe these machines on the right are the new ones they just added during a dry dock.
I decided to get a coffee and water before getting off of the ship.
I’m heading out.
This is a good size pier. It looks like there’s a trolley you can ride if it’s running.
To the right is where you would meet your Carnival excursions.
I would like to catch this show. I missed it in Playa Del Carmen last year. I don’t see anything indicating a schedule. I will probably miss it today since I have the long excursion. Maybe I can catch it on a future cruise here.
It is a good size port area. You have to make it all the way from the ship on the lower right to the circle in the upper left to exit the port. The pier is definitely longer than it looks on the map.
This is a nice looking pool with a swim up bar. It’s not crowded yet despite there being four ships in port.
Of course the bar isn’t open yet. If I were spending the day here I’d grab a couple drinks from another bar and take them in the pool before it gets crowded.
I’m not sure what’s happening above the pool. There’s a rope bridge.
They have a lot of shopping.
Some flamingos to pet.
And I made it out of the port.
They have a bunch of taxis here.
I am going to skip ahead to after my excursion now. For a detailed review of the excursion check out Kohunlich Mayan Ruins.
We are back at port in Costa Maya.
I heard from some people how crowded the pool was. It wasn’t crowded before I left. It’s not crowded now. It must’ve just been late morning-early afternoon.
Here you can see just how much bigger Mardi Gras is than Glory.
After eating I showered and headed to the Alchemy Bar.
Jose made this. I forgot to take a picture before starting. It tastes like Sierra Mist.
Jose also made these
Andrea made these. I brought espresso from the coffee shop for the first one.
It’s getting towards the end of dinner service so I requested a table before I miss it.
All of those empty tables and they put me right next to a couple.
Caesar salad.
Onion soup.
These BBQ ribs are fall off the bone type of stuff. The cream corn is good. I don’t like the beans. I’m not eating the fries .
Praline cake.
They have a solo guitarist playing in the atrium.
The laundry I turned in yesterday was delivered when my room was cleaned this evening.
This is the Piano bar before the late night comedy shows.
The comedy club wasn’t even half full with 10 mins to go so I said forget the uncomfortable bar seat I’m going for a two top right by the door.
Ron Josol.
Kenny Miller has a lot of bowling shirts.
I sure hope we’re getting new comedians tomorrow. Both of those were repeats. I knew someone was repeating but I didn’t know both were. These aren’t the first repeats either.
We’re in Belize tomorrow. Good night!
