Amber Cove Cruise Port

on
January 16, 2020

I already covered my day in Puerto Plata. But there really is a lot to do right in the Amber Cove cruise port area. That’s what we are going to look at today.

Here is the visitor’s guide they have available at the information desk.

This is an overview look at the Amber Cove port area.

Pier to Taxi

If you are looking to grab a taxi, it’s a pretty good hike from the ship to the taxi stand and even further to the taxis outside of the port area.

They do offer transportation down the pier.

Once you are at the end of the pier you’ll have to walk through the duty free shop area.

After you exit the duty free store they have an information desk.

Off to the left you will see this fountain. Walk past the fountain and find the round building.

There’s a covered area on the other side of the round building where you can catch a taxi.

Here is a look at their Taxi prices.

They also have car rental companies in this area.

The taxis inside the port area are union taxis. They have set prices that are going to be more expensive than outside taxis. If you are willing to walk a little further, you can save some money by grabbing a taxi outside of the Amber Cove gate.

Continue through the covered area and follow the pedestrian signs.

This covered walkway will take you to the Amber Cove gate. There will be outside taxis and tour operators waiting on the other side.

Shopping area

Back in the area of the round building and the fountain they have stores, a restroom, and a pharmacy.

You can get your passport stamped in the round building if that interests you.

Around the fountain they have these sculptures and a nice photo op area.

They have a section where you can learn about the Dominican Republic.

They have a couple of nice waterfalls in this area as well.

Pool area

If you take a right coming out of the duty free shop from the ship, that will lead you to the pool area.

The pool area has a restaurant and a swim up bar.

Here is the restaurant menu.

Take note of the poolside cabanas. They cost $325.

They have an area where you can play tic tac toe.

They have restrooms and two water slides at the far end of the pool area.

Cabanas

Here is the equipment price guide which includes the pricing for cabanas.

Skybar

I’m going up to the Sky Bar. There are steps at the beginning of the pool area. There is also a ramp on the other side of the water slide.

Restrooms are on the lower portion of the sky bar.

I took the steps down. On the way down you can see the hillside cabanas which cost $310.

Zip Line

The zip line entrance is up by the Sky Bar. It costs $20 but you get unlimited zips.

The zip line goes over the pool area and ends on the other side.

That pretty much covers the Amber Cove area. Next up is Grand Turk.
