Alaskan Splendor: Tracy Arm Fjord
Good morning. Today we are at Tracy Arm Fjord. I kind of thought when I woke up there would be snowy mountains outside but so far it’s just water.
Let’s see where we’re at
The temperature has dropped four degrees in 10 minutes. I’m curious about the time. They said to set it back an hour but it looks like the ship is on Seattle time still.
Here is today’s schedule of events.
I won’t be happy if they leave these signs up the entire time we’re in Alaska.
I went out anyway. It was more windy out here yesterday. I am just below the bridge so I was careful not to step out too far where they could see me.
There are the snowy mountains.
I guess it’s only 6:30. I’m pretty hungry but brunch doesn’t open for two hours. I had a taste for some lucky charms but they didn’t have any in the buffet.
They just have continental breakfast right now but I’m thinking about waiting for the full buffet breakfast to open and just be one of the first in line there. Then I could save brunch for an 11am since it closes at 12. My excursion meets at 12:15.
Here is a look at an empty Serenity deck.
I got in line for coffee at the Java Blue. I’m not the only one confused by the time situation. There is a discussion going on in this line about it. We figured out the hub is wrong. It’s 6:30 not 7:30.
I was looking for a warm place with a view and no people. I slipped into the piano bar.
At this point the internet went out for the remainder of the morning.
There is more time confusion. The buffet isn’t supposed to open until 7:30. At the time of this picture it is what’s supposed to be 7am ship time, but 8am Seattle time. People in this line are talking about it. It seems they opened the buffet on Seattle time.
I pierced the pancakes which is why they’re frowning.
There was a long coffee line so I got my second one at Juice & Java. I asked if the juice is included in Cheers. I was told it is not.
Exterior hot tubs are in use.
I moved down to the atrium bar to get a bloody mary and check out the views from the deck 3 lanai. I checked my drink receipt. It’s on Seattle time as well.
While I’m down here I stopped by guest services to let them know how messed up the time is. She admitted the hub app is wrong but seemed to blame the rest on guest confusion.
The guests are confused because you have the hub app on Seattle time and you’re opening all of your venues on Seattle time.
Is my excursion leaving on Seattle time or Alaska time? She says Alaska time but everything else today has been on Seattle time.
I got another bloody mary and took it outside.
I went back in and got a fireball to warm up. I’ve never had it on a cruise but if I go to a hockey game I’m drinking fireball shots at every intermission.
Two fireballs and a bloody mary.
I remembered I never tried that birthday martini last time so I’m trying one now. It’s not bad. It tastes like a cruiser to me.
They announced seals are outside. We ran outside. No seals. They announced whales outside. We ran outside. No whales.
I went inside and got another fireball.
Then a screwdriver.
They announced dolphins outside. We ran outside. No dolphins but I got a picture of an orca.
Then I went back inside for another fireball. People at the bar are admiring my picture.
I am going to brunch. I stopped at the casino bar on the way to get a screwdriver.
It took about 10 minutes to get a table. The good thing is they fixed the time issue.
This is the first time I’ve had this for brunch. I’m going with an Italian theme so I ordered cheese sticks and mac ‘n cheese off of the kids menu. These curly fries are the best fries I’ve had on a ship.
For the main course I ordered the fettuccine.
I went to the room to get changed for my excursion. My laundry is here.
A few items I packed specifically for this excursion.
Polar extreme socks.
Gloves and hat. These gloves have the pad on both thumb and index fingers for using your phone.
I brought my heavy coat.
And a wterproof floating iPhone case. This is the same one I used at Dunn’s River Falls in Jamaica. It works good.
I went back down to the atrium and got a fireball.
I’m taking it into the excursion meeting point which is the main lounge.
I ended up in the middle of the Brady bunch so I gladly told them they could have my area when I needed a refill.
I went back for another fireball. FJ from alchemy is at the atrium bar now and she isn’t happy that I’m already at 11 drinks. She says I need to save the last four for the alchemy.
I took a new seat on the aisle near the back of the lounge.
We are heading out. For full coverage of this excursion check out Tracy Arm Fjord & Glacier Explorer.
I am back from the excursion.
I usually like to get my room cleaned in the evening but my steward really wants to do it earlier. She asked on my way out if she could do it while I was gone and I said yes.
I was hungry when I got back so I went for a Rueben from the deli.
Shouldn’t it be “The Bored Room?”
The alchemy bar was full so I went to see Jean Marc in the Red Frog Pub. It’s a shame that such a nice pub is just all karaoke all the time.
I headed to the sports bar instead.
Then we lost signal.
I walked by the alchemy again. It’s still full.
I went back down to the pub to see Jean Marc.
After that beer I was able to get a spot at the alchemy for my last two drinks.
Yuliya made these.
I’m not a big mojito fan. Yuliya convinced me to try hers. It’s pretty good for a mojito. But I’m still not a big mojito fan.
I was talking to a nice couple from Boston. This is their first time on Carnival. Usually they cruise NCL. The funny thing is they said this ship was more lively compared to NCL. I think it’s dead compared to other Carnival cruises.
That’s my limit for the day.
I thought I pre-booked steakhouse but I wasn’t sure if it was 7:30 or 8. My pre-bookings aren’t showing up in the hub app and I couldn’t get to the Carnival website.
When I finally do get to the website they had already removed this booking from it. I just headed up to the steakhouse at 7:30 to be safe. It turns out my reservation was at 7:30.
I like the round bread. I believe they call it sea salt.
Compliments of the chef.
Mac ‘N Cheese
Pork belly.
Stuffed mushrooms.
Lobster. In the past I’ve had one big lobster. Here I guess they have smaller lobsters so they give you two.
I headed down to the aft lounge for comedy.
The duo that was in the atrium last night is in the casino tonight.
And the duo that was in the casino last night is in the atrium tonight.
10:15pm sunset.
I am back for another comedy show. It’s not very crowded.
There is no late dive-in movie.
I just noticed their deck 10 hot tubs are under the dome. That’s nice.
They’re either on break or done for the night.
I’m sleeping with my head at the foot of the bed because it’s warm in this room again. This way that air vent is hitting me and it’s much better.
I still haven’t booked a replacement excursion for Icy Strait Point which is tomorrow. I wanted to see if there was an outside excursion that included whales and bears like the one I had canceled.
The internet isn’t cooperating so just before midnight I gave up and decided to just book Carnival’s whale watching excursion so I don’t risk getting left with nothing.
The bear tour is sold out as are the first two whale watching tours. The 2pm whale watching tour has six tickets left. Maybe I can find a tour on the pier that will do a bear excursion in the morning and get me back in time for whale watching.
When trying to book I got a message that there was a problem with my account.
I got out of bed and went down to guest services. They said since my folio number changed when I got a new card earlier, I had to log out and back into the hub.
I’ve never had to do that before and it didn’t cause any problems with me purchasing the internet on a daily basis. Speaking of that I asked about the internet issues we’ve had today. She said two satellites are down. She refunded me one day and extended my time by 10 hours. I think those are mostly hours I’ll be asleep but a few will be at the end of the evening.
That’ll get me to Juneau morning. Maybe I’ll have AT&T there.
Good night. Tomorrow we’re in Icy Strait Point.
