Alaskan Splendor: Ketchikan
Good morning! We are pulling into Ketchikan at just after 7am. I am watching our arrival from the “secret deck” by my room.
After this I’ll go get coffee and eat breakfast before heading off of the ship. I have the Lighthouse, Totems, and Eagles excursion booked for today.
Here is today’s schedule of events.
I’m almost running out of room for my towel animals.
I’m going to get my coffee from Java Juice this morning. That line looks shorter than the Java blue line. It is nice having two coffee lines close enough for me to see which is shorter.
Sitka making my coffee here worked the coffee shop and Steakhouse Bar on my Vista cruise last year. She’s in the Sports Bar and Java Juice here.
I’m going to try to squeeze in a broken egg sandwich before my excursion.
I added a side of bacon and hash browns.
We are getting off on deck 2 midship today. It has been 0 forward at our other ports.
My plan was to go down from 3 to 2, walk to mid and get off. Well they have security setup in the midship elevator lobby. Technically I should go back up stairs, walk down to the midship, then come back down. I didn’t allot time for that so I’m going to try to avoid having to do it that way.
I guess the proper way to do it would’ve been to go back up to 4, walk through the Red Frog Pub to midship then down to 2. As it was I got up there and just went to the back of the line.
Technically I didn’t go through security this way. No coffee is allowed off of the ship. I finished mine in the line.
The excursion lines are right next to the ship.
For full details of my excursion, please visit Ketchikan: Lighthouse, Totems, and Eagles. I am going to skip ahead to after the excursion now.
I just returned from the Lighthouse, Totems, and Eagles. excursion. Back on board is in 45 minutes. I asked the tour bus driver for a lunch recommendation. He said The Fish House. There’s a bit of a line. I’ll see how it moves.
I guess this is where they have the lumberjack show. I can hear something going on in there. If that interests you, it would be real convenient to catch the lumberjack show and eat lunch at The Fish House.
This is how close we are to the ship. That Crab & Grille is another food option if you want to avoid the Fish House line. I don’t know when or if I’m ever coming back here so I want the Fish House.
They passed out paper menus to people standing in line.
I made it inside!
I placed my order. While I’m waiting for that I’m going to the bar.
I’m really pressed for time so I’m ordering two beers at once. Agave gold and single engine red.
Chowder with salmon cornbread. “MAYBE I OUGHTA EAT YOUR CORN BREAD”
I got the fish & chips sampler. It has salmon, halibut, and cod.
Five minutes until back on board. Hold the boat! I’m coming!
What the…..
This is the line for the ship.
With that line I have time to do a little shopping.
The line died down during my shopping spree.
Trivia is happening down in the atrium.
They have Alaska themed games on the lido deck.
I’m getting a beer at the Serenity Bar for sail away.
And we are sailing away.
This was cool to see a float plane landing during sail away.
The Red Frog Rum bar was packed so I stepped over the the Blue Iguana.
One of my favorite Carnival cakes: Black Forrest.
It’s weird having the DJ down here and all the loungers facing me. I feel like I’m walking out on stage.
Trivia is still happening down in the atrium.
The Sports bar on this ship has a stadiums theme.
The Red Frog Pub is dead again.
I decided to exit when the karaoke started.
I was looking at the ship map to see if there are any places I haven’t been yet. On the map it says there’s a topside bar right where the serenity bar is on Glory. The bar section of the Fun Times doesn’t list any topside bar. I’ll check it out but I’m thinking it was removed in a remodel and not removed from the deck plan.
Camp Ocean is above the buffet.
This is what would be serenity on Glory. I just took pics of the clamshells from one deck up during my tour the other morning. I haven’t actually walked it.
Man oh man. It’s too bad it took me till day 6 to find my favorite day bar on the ship.
It looks like nobody else has found it either.
I had a couple beers then headed down to the Alchemy for it’s opening.
FJ made this drink.
My card is beginning to peel.
FJ made this as well.
I have a lot going on with my phone here.
This is a Habanero vodka drink from FJ.
I’m going to catch the rest of these games in the sports bar so I don’t kill my phone battery.
Walk off home run for the Mets.
I’m in the main lounge now for the 80’s Pop to the Max show from Playlist Productions.
I don’t know what happened but they stopped the 80’s Pop to the Max show. Cruise director Andy stepped out and apologized and said it wasn’t supposed to say that. I’m guessing there was some profanity.
And it resumes.
There is a string trio in the atrium.
The string trio is still playing in the atrium. I like it when they play Metallica.
Rock N Glow is happening on lido deck.
I made a slick move here.
I have enjoyed my seating assignments this cruise. They’ve been putting me by a window with nobody next to me.
Cranberry bread.
Crab Cake.
Grilled Shrimp.
My favorite dessert. Grand Marnier Souffle.
After dinner there’s a duo in the atrium.
And the other duo is in the casino.
The comedy club is packed for PJ Walsh.
Kyle Grooms.
That was unfortunate scheduling. I guess CD Andy is doing his own comedy show. He scheduled it at 10:30 in the main theater. The last comedy show ended at 10:30 in the comedy club at the other end of the ship.
The last 10 minutes of Kyle Grooms’ comedy show people were filing out. It looked bad. And it wasn’t because the comedian was bad. People didn’t want to miss the start of Andy’s show. The show didn’t actually start till almost 10:40 anyway. I think they should change it to 10:45 on the schedule.
Good night! Tomorrow is going to be like a sea day with a short late night stop in Victoria.
