Alaskan Splendor: Embarkation

on
July 11, 2022

Good Morning from the Warwick Seattle! I’m just hanging out on the balcony this morning. I’m drinking the Seattle’s Best (not really) coffee they have available in the room.

I’m watching a little Seinfeld.

For breakfast I had the jalapeno cheese Piroshky I bought at Piroshky Piroshky yesterday.

I’m ready to go.

It’s a $21 Lyft to the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91. You may want to see if there’s a taxi out front that can beat the price before you order it. I had a taxi driver try to steal me for $15.

I can see the ship!

Am I liable if my Lyft driver hits a pedestrian? I believe we’re driving on the walkway right now.

Now we can’t back up because someone followed us. Maybe I should’ve gotten in that Taxi.

This guy comes up and moves a cone for us” you’re on the sidewalk sir.”

Luggage drop off.

There are hundreds of people in line. Someone got here before their arrival time. I think everyone other than me got here before their arrival time.

The line goes down and then comes back.

All the way down there.

We just had a pretty good movement. I turned the corner.

There’s a Carnival rep in a black vest checking documents.

She has a little printer that will print boarding passes if aren’t holding a paper one. I have one in my bag but I let her print one so we can see this printer in action.

They are requiring masks in the terminal at this time.

They are serious about ArriveCan.

Two different people checked it outside. Then a third person inside. You don’t have to have a paper copy. You just have to open it in the app on your phone. I used Verifly as well and just had both open where I could toggle between the two. With that the only paper I needed was my boarding pass.

Security is upstairs.

Once you get past security you go to check-in. They have a regular line and a diamond/platinum line. The diamond/platinum line is longer.

They’re already boarding.

They’re calling C2. I’m B1 so I can board right away.

It’s kind of strange that the one cold climate home port I’ve been to is the only one with an outdoor ramp.

My arrival time was the first available time of 10:30-11am. I left the Warwick at 10:10, arrived at 10:25, had my bags checked at 10:30, got in line at 10:31, was in the building at 10:45, through security at 11am, checked in at 11:03, and on the ship at 11:08.

This is the earliest boarding time I’ve had since the restart. The other boarding times being: 11:20 on Mardi Gras in Orlando, 11:48 on Panorama in Long Beach, 11:25 on Vista in Galveston, and on 11:35 on Glory in New Orleans.
