Alaska Jewel: Juneau
Good morning! We just left Tracy Arm Fjord and are heading to Juneau. I got my coffee downstairs at Starbucks. There has really been no line for coffee this week.
Here is today’s schedule of events.
After coffee I grabbed a couple of screwdrivers from O’Sheehans to take to breakfast.
They have biodegradable straws which are as good as real straws but Carnival is too cheap to buy them. You just have to know where they are. They have them at O’Sheehans.
You can also get them at Starbucks on the right.
It was a 3-5 minute wait for a breakfast table this morning.
The daily features is the portion of the menu that changes. That’s where I found the sandwich yesterday.
Huervos rancheros with a side of bacon and breakfast potatoes.
After breakfast I headed up to O’Sheehans for bloody marys.
They have the forward ship cam on the big screen.
Now that’s a cruise ship restroom. I’ve been in five public restrooms and I would say three are large and two are what I would expect. This is one of the two.
Irish coffee may become a part of my repertoire because they do it better than Carnival.
White Russians.
They changed the big screen to a port we’ve all ready been to. I would keep it on ship cam.
I’m switching to beer.
They have Corona in a bottle here.
Entertainment has started in the atrium.
I got another excursion time change notice. This is for my excursion in Ketchikan.
Another phone message. It’s due to the excursion time change.
I’m going to try one of those Coronas. I like bottled beer much better than cans.
And another
It looks like Azura is closed for lunch.
I headed to the Palace.
Bistro salad
Loaded baked potato
Chicken flautas
Queso frito tortila bowl
I got another Corona.
They messed the dessert up. I ordered the molten cake and got flan. It’s fine. I was full anyway.
Sea plane landing.
That’s Juneau.
One of the HAL ships.
Time to get off of the ship for my excursion.
I thought we were doing a movie shoot in this port bathroom.
Best cruise port bathroom soap ever.
I am meeting my excursion now. For full coverage of that please check out Dog sled musher camp in Juneau. I am skipping ahead to after the excursion.
After the excursion we had an option of being dropped off downtown or being dropped off by the ship. I still have a tram ticket in my pocket and a desire to eat crab legs at Tracy’s so I got off downtown.
I picked up a souvenir.
Celebrity Eclipse
I did the Red Dog Saloon last year. I do recommend it if you haven’t been. It has that old west feel. They have a gun that belonged to Wyatt Earp on display.
I’ll be coming back later for king crab. I spent two days in Anchorage looking at $130-140/lb prices on king crab so this feels like a bargain.
That’s where I got coffee before I got on the bus to Mendenhall glacier last year.
This parking lot is where all of the glacier buses picked up and dropped off when I was here last year. That bus there now is taking people back to this NCL ship.
For full coverage of my tram trip please check out Goldbelt Tram in Juneau.
These are the kiosks where I bought my glacier bus ticket last year. It’s getting to the end of the day so they’ve closed up shop.
That’s about how far away the ship is from here. I’m going to walk back after I eat.
Now the crab cook was asked what he would get. He said dungeoness because he catches them himself out in the bay. But I had those last time. And I’ve been looking at king crab double this price so I’m getting the king crab combo.
This bus takes you back to the ship.
The room was cleaned while I was gone.
There’s a college football game happening now but it’s not on the TVs.
Celebrity Eclipse is on the move.
After I watched the Eclipse I headed up to O’Sheehans for beers.
And we are sailing away. The night time Juneau sail away isn’t as nice as the afternoon one we had last year with sea planes taking off and landing around us.
I’m full from the king crab so I won’t be eating tonight but I stopped by to see the menu
This band from the Philippines is always good.
Tonight’s entertainment is a singer.
I stopped by where that band is playing for some Coronas.
I’m off to bed. Tomorrow we’re in Skagway. Good night!
