A Christmas Dream: Mahogany Bay
Good morning from Mahogany Bay!
We’re in port with a friend I was recently separated from–Carnival Breeze I’ve been here on Freedom and Breeze. We always parked where Breeze is now. You really can’t see the beach from this spot. We’ll check it out later. I bet it will be packed with two big ships in port.
I went to the coffee shop this morning and remembered to try the holiday coffee, but the sign was gone! I was informed they had no water pressure so they only have regular and iced coffee. I went with the regular, Black like at home.
This regular coffee is so hot it was burning my hand through the cardboard thing. I picked up a couple of paper towels from guys bbq and it was still burning my hand. This coffee should come with a warning “don’t pickup or drink for 30 minutes.”
I hate the rush to get off the ship on port days. I like to take my time. That’s why I booked this 12:30 glass bottom boat excursion. I can take my time. Drink my coffee (after it cools off for an hour). Have a leisurely breakfast and maybe a drink.
Tomorrow I’m going to have to get up early for the Belize tender and my Mayan ruins excursion. Fortunately tonight is the night the comedians and dancers are off. Maybe I can get to bed a little early. I will never understand why they have both off the same night. Tonight is also the off night for the ocean plaza band and the piano bar player (I’m told). It’s crazy. Why not have comedy in the main lounge on the dancers night off and have a big main show on the comedians night off?
Here is the schedule of events for today:
Cabin
A little breakfast. Omelet with ham, bacon, bell peppers, jalapeño peppers, onions, and cheese. I grabbed an eggs Benedict off of the buffet to try.
I was able to watch a lot of the President Bush funeral in the room while getting ready and eating breakfast. I don’t have to be 100% separated from reality here.
Atrium Bar
Trying to get a Bloody Mary. Nobody was in the casino bar. I went to the atrium bar and the wait is ridiculous. I guess the coffee machine is working down here so all of the crew are coming here for coffee.
I got off the ship a little after 11am. Let’s check out the beach area first.
I want to say that ski lift thing is $14 for the day. On the other side of the bridge they have a place where you can rent lockers or various aquatic conveyances.
WiFi is $5 for the day.
This is the building with the red roof. You have to walk through here to exit the place. They don’t let outside excursions in so I have to walk through here take a left a monkey land and walk over the hill to meet my tour guide.
I walk over the hill 15 minutes early. My driver is at the bottom holding an aqua whatever sign just like the tour instructions said.
We start to drive off and I’m like “nobody else?” He says I’m the only one from Mahogany for this tour. He said most people pick the earlier time. It was about a 30 minute ride to the boat.
On the way he mentioned if I wanted to do anything else like shopping or whatever to just let him know. I told him I would like to see the chocolate factory. We stopped there on the way to the boat.
This woman wanted me to eat cocoa and sugarcane out of this bowl. She dumped some in my hand and wanted me to throw it in my mouth. If you know me, you know I don’t like food that’s just sitting around for the general public. Now we’re talking about sitting in a wooden bowl for the general public in Honduras? I don’t think so.
She he kept insisting I throw them in my mouth. If you know the caddy shack scene where Chevy Chase licks the salt, sucks the lime and throws the tequila over his shoulder…I pulled one of those. I opened up wide and threw the stuff over my shoulder. “It’s good.”
The yellow boat with the blue top is my ride.
I get to the boat and guess what? I’m the only person on this tour. Just the driver up top and me and a tour guide down below. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. He knew all about the different fish and the coral.
That’s NOT coffee in that cup.
This was, I believe a red snapper, they say always swims along side the boat. He said there’s another fish that always swims in front of the boat like it’s leading it.
We saw two sea turtles on the way back. A small one and a big one.
Didn’t come out good but the small one
After we got back the boat took another group out. They had 5-6 people. I think they were locals.
Afterwards the driver drove me back to Mahogany Bay. This time I didn’t have to walk the hill. They are able to drop you off at the entrance.
I wanted to have a local beer before getting back on the ship. Fat Tuesday was the closest place.
The tour driver gave me some Honduran money as a souvenir. This is worth about four cents.
Lunch
I grabbed some lasagna for lunch at Pasta Bella.
This is a new addition.
Alchemy Bar
This lady at the Alchemy has her hand bandaged up and says she got bit by a tiger at little French key. I wonder if she’s an Alabama fan.
Maria made this one.
This is a really good coconut drink also made by Maria. It has
strawberry syrup, coconut syrup, pineapple juice, lime juice, pineapple infused vodka, and Malibu coconut rum.
Vodka, lavender, lime, cranberry, rosemary.
A country duo on the stage in Ocean Plaza now. Like most of the entertainment, the band is off tonight.
Coconut martini
Maria made these. This was like a banana split. I know it had banana milk in it.
”I’m lactose intolerant. I don’t like lactose, and I won’t stand for it.”
This was an orange drink. Orange you glad I posted it?
Dinner
There seems to be a gap in the system..and for that reason I don’t have the dinner menus. Since my photos were uploading all night, I didn’t take the screen shots of the menus on hub. And I can’t find where they are when that venu isn’t open. I went down to where the menus are posted and they are already on tomorrow. But here are the food pics.
Broccoli and three cheese soup
Heart of lettuce salad.
Bbq pork spareribs, broccoli, Mac n cheese
Bitter n Blanc
Been at adult game and then quest for the part hour and 15 mins. Adult games should be before quest on more ships. Three months ago I saw what appeared to be the tail end of an unadvertised version of it in the night club one night. The last time I saw on the schedule before Quest was on Freedom when this comedy club manager was CD. She hosted them tonight. Maybe there’s a correlation.
I’m going to bed early. Got that early tender for that long excursion in the morning.
