Christmas Magic: 1st Sea Day

on
January 2, 2020

Good morning! Today is the first sea day. We’re on our way to the Dominican Republic. It’s currently 8am. I’m going to get ready and head downstairs to checkout the sea day brunch situation.

Main Dining Room

It’s 8:30 I’m in the brunch line for the br part of brunch.

Skillet cake, hash browns, and cheese grits

Deck 5 Lanai

After br I stopped by the coffee shop for a white chocolate mocha then stepped outside to the lanai. I don’t see this often but they do have punch cards at the coffee shop where you can purchase a certain number of coffees and get one free. I never see it advertised but occasionally I’ll see someone pull out one of those punch cards. I saw one this morning. I don’t ever have to worry about it since my coffees are included in the cheers program but it may interest a specialty coffee drinker that isn’t on cheers.

While I’m here I’m going to step around the corner to get a look at Guy’s Pig & Anchor BBQ. They aren’t open for breakfast so this should be a good time to get some pictures.

Atrium Bar

I’ve moved on from coffee to an extra spicy Bloody Mary.

This Bloody Mary is perfect.

I can hear some loud cheers coming from the Main Lounge behind me. I’m going to step over there and see what’s going on.

Main Lounge

It’s the Cat in the Hat.

Nothing like a little Dr. Seuss to go with your Bloody Mary. They’re going to read Horton–He’s a Hoot!

Atrium Bar

Back out to the atrium. Santa is plopping his jolly rear down.

I ordered another Bloody Mary no fruits or vegetables on request. I know who to get them from now. The first one was perfect. This one is less than perfect. The bartender that made my first one was on the phone.

Main Dining Room

12:30 I’m back in the dining room for some unch.

Steak N’ Eggs

Red Frog Rum Bar

After unch I headed up to lido deck to check out the lip synch battle auditions. I was able to secure one of my favorite spots at the Red Frog Rum Bar.

Caribbean Colada

Miami Vice

Cabin

After the lip synch auditions I headed back to my cabin to get a bag ready for tomorrow. I have the water falls excursion and you have to bring wet clothes, dry clothes, flip flops, a towel–All kinds of things I don’t normally take off of a ship.

While I’m thinking about it here is the movie schedule for the free movie channel.

Alchemy Bar

The Alchemy opens at 4pm on Sea Days so I headed over for a cocktail.

One of the disadvantages of having the Alchemy Bar in Ocean Plaza as it is on the Dream Class (Dream, Breeze, Magic) is the fact that they sometimes have activities going on in Ocean Plaza that could impact the seating at the Alchemy Bar.

In this case I arrived to find the Alchemy filled with people playing Golden Girls trivia.

I was able to get a seat down at the end. Luby made this drink for me. It has Grey Goose, Bacardi, tangerine juice and orange juice.

Cucina Del Capitano

I’m eating in the Italian restaurant for dinner tonight. Here is the menu.

Calamari

Spagetti

Porkchop

Cake and custard cream with lemon sorbet

After dinner I stepped down to the Buffet to get a shot of their menu.

Main Lounge

Next I headed down to the main lounge for the Playlist Productions show America Rocks. This is my favorite of their shows because they have the actual band from Ocean Plaza playing pretty good music.

Lido Deck

They have a Dive-In movie playing on Lido Deck.

I stepped back inside and can see the 80’s music party happening down in the Atrium.

After the movie they cleared the deck for a Lip Synch mini battle followed by a deck party.

Cabin

On the way back to the room I found a duck.

I’m off to bed. I have an early day tomorrow with the water fall excursion in the Dominican Republic.
